North Eastern Part of India is one the most unexplored and kinda yet to be discovered, though the virgin beauty of these mountains is beyond imagination.

These are not the pep tourist destinations one may be looking for but they offer quite a blend of adventure, nature, learning more about culture and best they teach you respect human kind as I have been roaming around these parts all by myself (being a girl), these are most safe regions per say in the country.

Tawang is a Holy land, one of the largest Buddhist monasteries of Mahayana sect in Asia established in 1680.

And like Buddha said “ It’s better to travel well, than Arrive”, journey to Tawang literally means it.

Its best to enter Arunachal via Assam which makes Guwahati the start point, you may opt to reach there by Flight/ Train. From Guwahati Regular buses/ Taxi’s (Govt / private) operate to the last district of Assam called Tezpur.

It’s very close to China Border, so one needs to get a travel permit before entering Arunachal (which your Taxi guy will do it for you once entering Arunachal from Tezpur). High risk for national security means you gonna spot more than armed forces ever would have seen in your lifetime.

Since most of the NE operates on Taxi’s makes onward journey to Tawang from Tezpur is mostly in hands of your Taxi Driver.

Every morning 5:00AM shared taxis starts from Tezpur to Tawang, and one needs to be punctual on this else you stuck in Tezpur for a day or pay ten times than usual as you may end hiring one Taxi all by yourself. Due to difficult terrain and offcourse the 13000+ high mountain roads it’s better to accomplish your journey in Daylight. This Taxi will reach Tawang by evening same day, one can opt any Hotel in Town for stay.

If you are lucky enough and it’s the right weather you may whiteness lovely snowfall on the way, roads are pretty narrow, scary per say but scenic beauty is breathtaking.

If you are solely fond of nature make your trip more worthwhile and have a break journey (as I did) Tezpur à Bomdilaà Dhirang à Tawang, remember it’s a trip none less than a lifetime.

You may feel patriotic while crossing 1962 China war and Kargil memorials, don’t forget to step down at Paramveerchakra Major Yashwant Singh’s memorial before Sella Pass, the place where he died fighting 62 China war, stories are that his spirit still waves though these mountains and guard this country.

People are very friendly, monastery open early 5:00AM onwards, its pleasure to watch happiness and peace and all those little children up to their prayers and duties such early in the morning in freezing temperatures.

I can possibly go on and on about writing this journey and experience but better left for exploration as its best to discover and enjoy and live I suppose.

Have a great trip ..
