I headed towards Knysna after brunch at Santos Express and visited the pretty Victoria Bay en route (couples, you have to go here). Eugene had told me about a secret trail some 20 kms before I would reach Knysna. Drupkelders Trail. Trivia - not more than 12 people are allowed on this trail at any given time. What you get at the end of this 4 km hike into the forest is something intensely soothing. Rocky pools with cascading river water having a dark green color owing to tannin from the leaves. The day I went, I happened to be the only person on the trail and thus I felt like it was my own private swimming pool. I reached Knysna in the evening and headed straight to the Knysna Heads, which has some stunning views of the lagoon opening into the ocean. That evening as the water receded in the lagoon, got to see two unique things – a group of people baptizing one of their own and people searching for bloodworms (fish baits).

Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden
Whether you are a botany enthusiast or not, this place is a must visit to understand the diverse species of flora that grow here. The Botanical gardens mostly exhibit the species of plants that are peculiar to Africa and won't be found on other continents. The conservatory houses species from different regions. A bit of learning and a bit of fun.
Addo Elephant National Park
On Day2, we took a early morning flight to Port Elizabeth from Johannesburg. From here we stated our drive to garden route. We hired a car from Hertz, just outside the airport. It was a nice comfy Silver Polo & drove to Happy Jackal Guest House near south gate of Addo Elephant National park, which is around 40 km from Port Elizabeth. On the same day evening (day2), we visited addo elephant national park. We entered from south gate. It took around 1.5 hrs to reach main gate. We spotted many elephants, antelope, zebras, Impalas along the route. However no big five. We had to leave from main gate around 5pm to reach south gate before its closing time (6:30pm). We had dinner at Grunters Pub and Grub. Near south gate, there were limited options available for food. This was a good place.
Valley of Desolation
Hiking: The Monte Trois Pitons national park is a UNESCO World Heritage site and is full of incredible hiking adventures. The rise and fall of its many mountains leads you trekking over active volcanoes. The Valley of Desolation is a particularly interesting area, but be extremely careful of the steam vents! The most exciting trek is through the park to reach Boiling Lake, a lake that is at a constant boiling temperature due to the volcano below it. It is an absolutely stunning view, and the hike will take the average climber to the limit of his abilities!3- The Lonely Planet RecommendationLonely Planet has released their long-awaited ‘Best in Travel’ lists, and Dominica ranks in the top 10 countries to visit in 2017! They attribute their recommendation to the beautiful and untouched natural environment of the island, and its great opportunity for eco-tourism. They also cite part of the beautiful history of Dominica and the many activities it holds out to modern explorers.4- The Island RelaxationOnce you’ve finished with your heart-pumping adventures, it’s time to relax. Dominica is not home to many white-sandy beaches that are common throughout the Caribbean, but there are a few very nice ones. I recommend heading to the town of Portsmouth at the northwestern part of the island to see the lovely strip of beach that they have there. Try the rope swing if you’re really adventurous, or just watch the local kids as they swing into the ocean on a lazy afternoon.
Kruger National Park
The best safari experience I ever had. Kruger national Park is the main sanctuary in South Africa having various types of animals, bird species, flora and fauna and many more. Everyday in Kruger we had to safari for 2 times so that we could watch as many as species of animals possible during our stay. We saw the famously known ' Big five' which included the five most dangerous animals on foot i.e. lion, buffalo, elephant, leopard and rhino. The best of the whole safari experience was to witness a herd of lions eating their buffalo prey and also loved the changing of colors in Kruger.
One of the most fascinating destinations for archeologygeeks is the Cradle of Humankind. This UNESCO World Heritage Site opens you up to the fossil remains of early man (Hominids) and stone tools made by them in the sites of Sterkfontein, Swartkrans, Kromdraai, and Environs. From the laps of science, move into the arms of history as you trace the fight against one of the greatest battles of our time with a trip to Robben island. This is where political leader Nelson Mandela spent 18 years in prison. Next, follow the footsteps of Mahatma Gandhi with a visit to landmarks such as the Pietermaritzburg Station, the Phoenix Settlement, the Satyagraha House and Museum, and the Hamidia Mosque.
