The 5 Best Luxury Jungle Lodges & Resorts in India

Spending a night in a jungle resort, close to nature, listening to the trees, birds and animals instead of the honking of horns, squealing brakes and pounding music; a bonfire around which you spend time with people who’re important to you. Sounds like the kind of vacation we all dreamed of when we were kids, doesn’t it! The more time you spend in the concrete jungle, the more you need a break like that.

Add air-conditioning, modern plumbing, food prepared in a real kitchen and not charred to a crisp over a campfire; luxuries we take for granted in our daily lives. Tripoto brings you some of the most lust-worthy options in luxury jungle lodges and resorts in India to revel in being treated like royalty in the jungle – depose the king of the jungle for a bit, even!

1. Luxury Jungle Lodges at Ranthambore National Park

Ranthambore is also a tiger reserve, though tigers aren’t all you’ll spot while you’re there. There are walks you can go on, there are safaris that’ll take you on your search to spot a big cat, there’s gorgeous topography to challenge photographers and there is the Ranthambore Fort for those who need more.

You don’t need to pitch a tent in the jungle, though. The Oberoi group will do that for you. Vanyavilas, their property in Sawai Madhopar, takes camping in a tent to another level altogether. They are technically tents, but they’re the kind of tents that emperors would be very impressed with. One night there will set you back close to Rs. 40,000, but those who pay the price claim that it’s worth it. For less expensive luxury, Vivanta by Taj will cost you about half of that. Pocket-friendlier comfort in the jungle is also available: Nahargarh Ranthambhore is a four-star resort that charges closer to Rs. 15,000 a night.

2. Luxury Jungle Lodges at Jim Corbett National Park

This is one of the most popular reserves in the country and was established to protect the endangered Bengal tiger. Our pick for the luxury option here is Namah, perched within the Corbett wilderness. Expect it to set you back at least Rs. 14,000 a night. If that’s too high a price for your jungle vacation, try Corbett Tusker Trail at about Rs. 4000 a night.

3. Luxury Jungle Lodges at Pench National Park

Pench National Park has a river that runs almost right down the middle, called Pench, cutting it into two forest areas. But this means that you can, on top of enjoying luxury in the jungle, go rafting! Even better, this is the place in which the Jungle Book was set, so you can really let your imagination run wild.

There are lots of options to experience the jungle without experiencing the discomforts of jungles, but we have to suggest the Taj property first. It’s called Baghvan and they have a rooftop sleeping arrangement that will really knock your socks off. Of course, staying here will cost about Rs. 40,000 a night. For something closer to a quarter of the price at the most, try Village Machaan Resorts.

4. Luxury Jungle Lodges at Bandhavgarh National Park

Yet another one in Madhya Pradesh! You’ve decent odds of spotting a tiger here, too, but it isn’t all about tigers. It’s about the solitude of being close to nature and the peace that comes from hearing your own thoughts without so many stressful demands weighing you down.

Stay at Mahua Koti to really feel like you’ve dethroned uppity felines as the real king of the jungle! This comes with a hefty price tag, though – from Rs. 40,000 to much more depending on what you book. If that’s a bit much even for peace, try the extremely highly recommended Aranyak Resort: it costs a fraction of that at Rs. 5000 a night.

Down south in the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve, you will find a very different kind of forest. Dense, wet, foggy and like something that could very well be a set for Lord of the Rings, it will make you believe that you might really be alone in the world, but will not make you feel lonely. After all, you’ll have elephants, deer, tigers, peafowl and more for company. Fancy swinging from a vine? Your best chance for luxury here might be Wayanad Silverwoods. It will cost you from Rs. 6,500 to Rs. 14,500, depending on your requirements. Villas, balconies, Jacuzzi and more not very far away from a herd of elephants; really, what more could you want when you say luxury in the jungle?
