Out of a ten-day Thailand trip, we could spend two days only in Chiang Mai. It is a very charming place. You could say only after a few glances that it is Thailand’s cultural capital.
It is a small, square shaped city that one can cover through bicycle even. It's a square-shaped city that's small and bike-friendly. But we preferred the tuk-tuk rickshaw, because it was hot outside. You can spend three to four days and can explore the city as follows.

Chiang Mai is renowned for its stunning temples, each with its unique charm:
• Wat Phra That Doi Suthep: Perched on Doi Suthep mountain, this iconic temple offers breathtaking panoramic views of Chiang Mai. The temple’s golden stupa and intricate architecture make it a must-visit. Early morning visits are particularly serene. There are trip organizers who organizes the trip clubbed with Doi Pui Village.




• Wat Chedi Luang: Known for its impressive, partially ruined chedi (stupa), this temple showcases the grandeur of Lanna architecture. The surrounding grounds are a peaceful retreat for contemplation.
• Wat Phra Singh: Located in the heart of the Old City, this temple is renowned for its beautifully preserved Lanna-style architecture and intricate woodwork.
• Wat Chiang Man: It is the oldest temple in Chiang Mai, was founded in 1296 by King Mengrai, the city's founder. This historic temple is renowned for its beautiful, ancient architecture and serene atmosphere.
• Wat Phra Sri Suphan: Often referred to as the Silver Temple due to its striking silver-colored exterior, Wat Phra Sri Suphan is a modern marvel with a rich artistic touch. It’s a relatively new addition to Chiang Mai's temple scene, having been built in the 1500s and refurbished in recent years.
• Wat Chai Mongkhon: It is a lesser-known but incredibly charming temple that offers a more intimate experience compared to its more famous counterparts. Established in the 13th century, it’s a place where you can witness local worshippers and monks in their daily routines.

Chiang Mai’s markets are a feast for the senses:
• Night Bazaar: Head to the Night Bazaar to experience Chiang Mai’s bustling night market scene. It’s the perfect place to pick up souvenirs, local handicrafts, and try a variety of street foods. The lively atmosphere and diverse offerings make it a great spot to end your first day.
• Sunday Walking Street: Every Sunday, Ratchadamnoen Road transforms into a vibrant pedestrian market. Browse through handmade crafts, local art, and indulge in delicious street food. It’s a great way to soak up the local culture.
3. Exploring Handicraft village: If you're an enthusiast of handmade goods or simply curious about local crafts, you can visit a few handicraft villages like San Kamphaeng Handicraft Village, Baan Tawai Village.
• Wood Carvings: The village is famed for its exquisite wooden sculptures, carvings, and furniture. Skilled artisans create everything from elaborate temple doors to delicate figurines.
• Traditional Crafts: Besides woodwork, you’ll find other traditional crafts like silverwork, ceramics, and textiles. The village provides a comprehensive view of various handicraft techniques.
• Artisan Shops: These villages have numerous shops and galleries where you can purchase high-quality, handcrafted items directly from the makers.

4. Get Up Close with Nature and Wildlife

• Transportation: Chiang Mai’s Old City is quite walkable, but you might want to use a tuk-tuk or Grab for longer distances. Car rentals or taxis are also available for trips outside the city.
• Weather: Chiang Mai has a tropical climate, so bring lightweight clothing and stay hydrated. Pack a raincoat if traveling during the rainy season.
• Etiquette: When visiting temples, dress modestly (covering shoulders and knees) and be respectful of local customs and traditions.
