If you can travel all the way down south then you have variety of places to visit in Kerala. From Trivandrum to Kasargodu you can actually spend ur entire august in scenic beauty. Best place to go would be Wayanad if you are craving to spend ur night in forest or waterfalls and Alapuzha if you want attain peace floating in Backwaters. Or Trivandrum if you want to get a mix of both forest land mass and beaches.

The monsoons in and around Pune, Konkan area is to marvellous. Trek for views from any Lohagad, Torna, Raigad(I can go on with the list) forts is absolutely wonderful. Also, you can go to Devkund waterfalls which is nearly 80kms from Pune. If you stay in or around Pune/mumbai, all these forts are one day tours. Also, if you're a beach bum, go to the Konkan coast... pick any beach from Goa to Gokarna(infact till Kanyakumari.. Varkala, Kovalam in Kerala are my favs!)

I will suggest for hillstations in South India. for eg. Coorg in Karnataka, Wayanad and Munnar in Kerala, Ooty in Tamilnadu, Pachmarhi In Madhya Pradesh. Apart from that trekking in Sahyadri and Western Ghats is best option if you are into adventure.

Since it is the monsoon season, it is the best time to visit western ghats. You can visit Coorg, Chikmagalur, Agumbe or Kabini in Karnataka. Doodh sagar falls and Jog falls in North Karnataka are also good options to consider.
