Any season is good... but if you go in October, you can experience the autumn (red chinars) or later during winters, the snowfall.

Kashmir in every season has different beauty. July is little warm than other month. And the most important thing is Amarnath yatra also starts in July so take care of the traffic times.

Its Summer season in july, Tourist season. Air travel is feasible if you have no issue with the budget, in order to save the time. You can hire cab inside Airport only and head to Dal Gate (Dal Lake). There is no direct train route at present (under process though), last station to reach is Jammu. In case by road then you may reach to Jammu first by train from any location in India. Then you can hire a cab or shared cab, prefer to start from jammu early morning with the sun rise only so that you can reach kashmir traffic less. Start your lodge in Dal Gate area where you can find all the tourist facilities since its the heart of the city and also the tourist area, Dal Lake, gardens, Nishat, Shalimar, etc. It is just close to the tourist reception centre where your cab travel will end. From the centre you can further plan for Gulmarg towards north and Pahalgam towards south. Further add Sonmarg in the list. 1 day and night would be enough for each place. Make sure to start for each place early morning to avoid traffic. 2 to 3 hours travel to reach each place from the centre with sonmarg being most. If you have longer plan, you can further go ahead towards Leh. It will take whole day to reach there and then further itenary in Leh is also longer distances, a day for each tourist destination. Pangong Lake (3 idiot) is good enough for camping. Kindly check the distances from google Map for better idea. In case tour package then probably all will be arranged. In case open travel, the above details can help you I guess. Further any help, it would be my pleasure to guide. I love travelling and know how important it becomes at times to have someone to guide without self intentions. Welcome to paradise on earth. Enjoy your trip whenever you plan. Share your travel and tag me to know how it went.
