From McLG, it will be mere 2-3 hrs drive if you take a taxi. There are buses which ply from Dharamshala to Palampur from where Bir is 30 kms. There is a famous monestry and a temple 600 yrs old around Bir Billing. I would advice to stay in Palampur tea estate from more quality oriented experience - Country Cottage. But in case you are not budget traveler as you will need taxi to go to Bir from there for paragliding. There are not much activities for a kid of that age in that area except watching snowy mountains and people in air with parachutes!!! :)

From Dharamshala: There are direct buses to Bir Road/Upper Bir leaving at 6am & 2pm from Lower Dharamshala. Or you can take a bus to Palampur, then to Baijnath. ... From Delhi: From the Inter-state Bus Terminal (ISBT), take a direct bus to Bir Colony.
