I heard that Bhutan Tourism has changed its rules about allowing solo travellers into the country. Apparently, singles need to join groups of 2/4/more to travel in the country. Does anyone know about this new rule? I checked the Bhutan Tourism website but there was no such update.

I doubt this piece of information that solo travellers are not allowed. For foreigners, single traveller is fine as long as we pay for the USD40 surcharge per night on top of the minimum daily tariff. Pls check the below from Tourism Council of BHutan : https://www.tourism.gov.bt/about-us/surcharges

No it is not true but Bhutan discourages solo travellers. From what the local guides told, one of the main reason for this is due to the increase in illegal settlers from India. The visa process may be more stringent if you try to travel solo. You will probably face more questions on your probabilities of returning back before being issued a permit.

It is for safety purpose... All foreign travellers are mandated to hire tour agents but Indian travellers are free on their own so they like to see Indians with company of their own if not tour agent. but if u could give the authority confidence on managing yourself alone they would allow solo travellers. there is no strict rule to cancel solo travellers entry.

True... however if you receive an invite from localite they would permit you. second option would be make friends during journey or post the dates in BATI and check if anyone travelling on the same dates for permit
