Hi Vinod I am travelling to Sikkim in a few days an it is the beginning of rainy season. Since the roads are not too great for excursions, August will be really a difficult time to move around in heavy rains. not even sure whether the excursions would be open for visit. Try to postpone your trip if possible to avoid heavy rains. the nearest airport is Bagdogra in West Bengal and you can take a cab to Gangtok which would be roughly 4-4.5 hours or alternatively, Bagdogra Airport has Helicopter Taxi which can fly you from Bagdogra to Gangtok in 35 mins flat but IXB to Gangtok is only at 14:30 hrs and Gangtok to IXB is only 11:30 hrs. and luggage limit is only 10kg per person for heli taxi.

Pls try to change ur plan. august is not suitable for sikkim as it is Rain season. new airport opened in pakyong but only from kolkata. if you came from outside wb, then make your ticket for bagdogra airport, it's in Siliguri.

August isn't a great time for Sikkim since there's chance of heavy rainfall. As for airport, you could go to Bagdogra. Pakyong is closest but it has flights only from Kolkata.

I think one must avoid a trip to sikkim in august because of heavy rainfall. you may miss a lot of things just because of bad weather. if you love rain , u will find even that beautiful . the itenary is like day 1 : reach gangtok from your airport day 2 : visit gangtok localities day 3 : go to Nathula ( take the required permission either just after reaching Gangtok or preferably more in advance as only limited vehicles are allowed there). there will be contingency whether you would be able to see the place because if the weather is really bad they do not allow day 4 : leave for Pelling through namchi day 5 : view Pelling ( don't forget to see rabdentse ruins) day 6 : either go darjelling or complete your trip. ( you can even go to lachung and lachen but I did not mention them in itenary as you are going in August) when I went there in rains ( June last) , I couldn't go there because the connecting road or bridge were damaged due to rain. enjoy your trip

Please check this https://www.tripoto.com/trip/9-days-in-enchanting-and-enigmaticsikkim-india-5d15cf43d9fba Monsoons start from July and last till September. It is highly recommended that you do not visit Sikkim during monsoons as the state is prone to landslides. The best time to visit Gangtok is from October to December
