In december it's too cold there so it's not a good idea.
I planned northeast last year December but one of my friends from there asked me not to come as December is not right time

Best time to visit shillong is around april.
And on 26-30 September there will be music festival at ziro(arunachal pradesh)... You would need permit to enter this state.. Its for 100 rs (the permit) and u can easily get it online.
Ziro music festival will also be happening on November month. A must visit

Hi Vinay, End of December is a great time to visit the North East. The weather is great from cold and manageable weather in Shilling to chilling winters further north like Arunachal Pradesh. It all depends on your affinity to winters. Many local festivals are held during this time. You can Google up on them and plan accordingly. Cheers

If you are planning to visit dawki lake, then you should go around October. I went in the month of June, and unlikely, I found the unclear lake water there.

Hi Vinay, The weather will be too cold in the month of December and especially in the Himalayan region like North-East India, all the states comes to live with green valley all around. Situation will get better by end of the year, so you can easily plan a trip to North-East region. Best time to visit any of the North-Eastern state is from September-March. Do carry good and warm jackets/sweaters. Also, If you are planning to go Assam then please check with the hotel about the current situation. Stay safe!

December is a festive month in the Northeast. Other than the chilling weather, you can get to witness Orange festival, Hornbill festival, Basar Confluence, and many more. Also you can enjoy the Christmas in Nagaland, Mizoram or Meghalaya, where the locals are mostly Christian and celebrate the eve with an open heart. December is the time for celebrations in the northeast, I would suggest you not to miss it.

Almost all the places in North East (NE) India are worth visiting in last week of December. But I would recommend Shillong as the atmosphere in Shillong is very festive due to Christmas & New Year. Another recommended place would be Kaziranga National Park, as this would be one of the best times to spot Rhinos there.
