Must include zagreb split dubrovnik and plitvice lakes. I would also suggest both slovenia and slovakia are two nearby countries tag them along with your croatia trip :)

Dubrovnik is best, it has got everything and there is few local festival which is happening.. I don't know the dates.. I Will try to find out.

You can do a day trip to Plitvice National park from Split . It is one of the most beautiful natural wonders of Europe, not to be missed.
