This 8th July I came back from a road trip to Leh Ladakh. The roads on Manali let highway are damaged bad, please take an experience driver with you. I went through this route to reach Leh, stayed at Jispa and Sarchu. The distance between these two places is only 70-80kms but it took us more than 10 hours to reach cause of bad weather and landslides. Came back to Delhi via Srinagar Leh highway which was a charm, with only blockages after Srinagar to get to Delhi due to Yatra. Tryna check the weather of the places you'll be passing through. Manali Leh highway was worth it to me because of its scenic routes, but were an issue for the parents in the group. Also Sarchu is gonna hit you bad, if you're planning to stay the night there. Please carry heavy woollen clothing and take diamox before hand just for this place

Thanks Ashna for the suggestions. I'll keep them in mind.
Hi, you should plan for a 10 day Delhi-Manali-Leh trip. The best time to do this trip is from end of August to mid-October. It will take you two to three days to reach Leh from Delhi depending on how long you drive for. You can spend the first night in Manali and second in Jispa. Reserve five days for Leh and surroundings. The places to visit in and around Leh are Nubra Valley, Turtuk, Pangong Lake, Khardung-La Pass and Hemis. For your return trip you can either backtrack the same way you came or go via Srinagar. Places to visit in and around Srinagar are Dal Lake, Shalimar Bagh, Nishat Bagh, Gulmarg and Sonmarg.

This is one of the best seasons of all for visiting the amazing and picturesque locations of Leh and Ladakh. The entire place is imbued in wonderful colors in all their glory right up through the Srinagar-Leh as well as Manali-Leh roads. After monsoons, the level of the flowing waters recede too much and the weather is dry with a beginning chill and occasional snowfall. Moreover, the road conditions are better and the maintenance work is also settled by this time. Various water bodies surrounding the location turn aqua blue and the place starts exuding astonishing beauty. Raid-De Himalayas Rally opens up and can prove to be a bit disturbing for regular travelers.

This is one of the best time to go to Leh as this time offers some of the best sights of Ladakh and better road conditions (than amid the Monsoons). As the peak season (June-August) is over, now the rates of the hotel are decreased. The Ladakh temperature during this time is Maximum 21° C, Minimum 5° C. The climate is cool and wonderful chill begins to look in. It in some cases you can find snows amid late September. Get a chance to enjoy the crystal clear water with glimmering sunbeams falling over the surface and making it sparkle. Also at this time, the road conditions are much better than the usual. At times there can be snowfall which can cause a roadblock. Visit some of the best parts of this region like the mesmerizing Pangong Lake and enchanting Tso Moriri and get a chance to learn about the culture and the beauty of this region. Also visit the famous monasteries and the stupas here while you pass through the highest motorable road.
