Pondicherry is a beautiful and vibrant city which is located in the coastal area of Bay of Bengal. You can see the French influence widely in the city with the street names, architecture, cuisine, language. As it’s been ruled by French for a long time, still the impact of French can be seen everywhere in culture and architecture. Few of the important places at Pondicherry are the age old temples, churches, French buildings, ashram, rock beach, boat house and Auroville

Hi Malvika, First of all, stay in french colony. Budget options at MG road and nearby. Otherwise, near The Beach / Promenade. It will enable you to visit all tourist places by foot or on bicycle. Autos are quite expensive. You must visit Paradise beach. You can explore Tamil quarters near serenity beach, if interested. The list of places to visit are as follows: The Beach / Promenade The French Quarter Barathi Park / Government Park Churches - particularly Church of Sacred Heart of Jesus opposite Railway Station Botanical garden - Chunnambar Boat House Oustery Lake Paradise Beach - accessible from Chunnambar Boat House on motor boat 200/- per person Sri Aurobindo Ashram - Auroville International city Matri Mandir in Auroville Manakula Vinayagar Temple - temple elephant Laxmi is a joy to see Villianur - St. Lourd Church (7Km from Pondicherry towards Villupuram) Villianur Thirukameeswarar Temple Auro Beach (Opposite to Auroville City) Goubert market Muslim quarter and the several mosques (near train station) The Museum is a jumble with no coherence and almost no French content. French war memorial. Old light house.

I don't know how many days you will be there.. But I'll tell for 2 days.. Take a rental bike, it costs around ₹250...Roam around the French city.. Visit Aurabindo ashram and can go to Auraville.. Eat some French and Italian things. Take a bus and go to Picchavaram mangroves {don't miss it}.. If you have time then please visit Chidambaram natarajan temple.. It's awesome..And play in the beaches.. Go to the rock beach in the evening, take a wine bottle and enjoy your sip by looking at the sea..
