Hey Megha, Make a prebooking of the hotel either with OYO or MMT if you are going during new year eve as at that time it is difficult to get a hotel. For the cheap accommodation, you can also book zostels or hostels at www.hostelworld.com. Pack winter clothes like Woollen cap, thermals, woollen socks, gloves, good quality shoes, jackets, woollen sweater, moisturizer etc. Happy travelling!!!!!

You can book your hotels with booking.com. If you are planing to stay at Rishikesh I recommend Shiv Shakti Hostel, staff is friendly, affordable, very close to laxman Jhula and Tera manzil Temple (Trimbakeshwar Temple). I suggest you to look for weather forecast and pack your stuffs. You can take warm cloths, comfortable pair of shoes, take one Indian outfit since you are visiting temples, and doing ganga arthi (Even though there is no dress code in temples). Have fun!.

Hey Megha as your are South Indian like me. I would suggest you to carry heavy thermal clothes Thermals. Winter wear. Sweater and jacket. And when coming to overnight stay. You can check tripoto or booking.com. If you are looking for affordable stays you can ask for homestays in the locality which would charge you not more than 500rs per night. In Auli temperature will be severely low so make you you pack enough clothing for needs. Happy travelling:)

Hey megha, you can find good deals on hotels on goibibo or yatra also if you are comfortable in hostels zostel and hostelworworld are good option. for weather you can check it once on Google before you leave. and for clothes I suggest you to keep warm clothes atleast 3 layers and also you can buy quechua pullover from decathlon. it's keeps you warm up to -13 degree any other help you want feel free to dm me. happy traveling

You need to pre-book at least in Rishikesh.. Rishikesh has lots of hostels that are good . Check out Zostel its quit cheap and is near to Laxman Jhula. Try out bunji Jumping in Rishikesh. you can check my Post. For Haridwar there is no need for stay if you just want to attend Ganga Aarti. That can be done any day and Haridwar is just 45 min from Rishikesh.

Book a hotel in joshimath because resorts in Auli is way too much costly. You can go to Auli by Joshimath by cable car and be return in the evening. It'll save you great amount. In rishikesh, you can book zostel or any other backapackers hostel. Pack as much winter clothes as you can cause it's gonna be very cold. Thermals, Gloves and Caps are must. A pair of good boots is preferred over sneakers.

These are not only cheapest options but also will be very convenient in terms of your local travel guide and lot of other support while travelling a new city since Airbnb hosts are usually really helpful and sometimes they offer you city tour and similar stuff while in hostels you can find people similar like you also hostels have lot of deals to visit places and discounts on adventure activities and they are best people to guide you in a budget price

The entire region is pretty cold at this point of time. Temperature hovers around 9 - 12 deg C accompanied with chilly winds. At Haridwar near Harki Pauri you will get reasonable and decent places to stay. Try to stay amidst the market area so that you can enjoy the evening roaming around plus plenty of options for food are available. You can also check in AirBnb. You can start from Haridwar, then Dehradun via Rishikesh and from there to Auli.

You should keep woolen clothes as it will be very cold there. You can get cheap accommodation at Zostel or Airbnb.
