Route: Mumbai - Dehradun - Guptakashi - Kedarnath - Guptakashi - Dehradun - Mumbai
(Mumbai-Dehradun by flight ; Dehradun -kedarnath by taxi) By rail: The Haridwar Railway Station is the nearest railhead to Kedarnath. Trek to Kedarnath: From Gaurikund (14km) or from Sonprayag (5 km) can also visit
1. Gandhi Sarovar also known as Chorabari Tal.
2. Gaurikund Temple dedicated to Goddess Parvati.
3. Visit Vasuki Taal situated at an average height of 14,200 feet above sea level.
4. Visit Bhairav Temple situated south of the Kedarnath Temple. *Kedarnath weather and temple closing months* The Kedarnath Temple remains closed all of winter due snowfall. During these six months (between November and April), the palanquin along with the festival idol of Kedarnath is shifted to Ukhimath near Guptakashi. Places to visit in Kedarnath

Winter is freezing cold with temperatures dropping to sub-zero levels and not at all ideal if you have a trek in mind. Also the Kedarnath Temple remains shut through the entire season.

Last year, did this trip From Delhi, there is a direct bus at ISBT at 9:30 pm. It drops you off at Sonprayag, the last roadhead. But be prepared for a long drive, I'm talking about at least 18-20 hours in one place with respective breaks.
Otherwise you can break your trip from Delhi-Rishikesh and Rishikesh-Guptkashi-Sonprayag (6:30am from Rishikesh). Cost from Delhi would be ₹850 in ordinary bus.
From Sonprayag, jeep ferries to Gaurikund the base camp, for ₹50 (only local jeep allowed). From there your trek begins. For a more detailed itinerary, check out my blog.
