Hampi is definitely not a day trip. I suggest you take 2-3 days to fully explore it. Here's something that might help you. Complete all the monuments near the Virupaksheswara Temple. And go to the stone chariot during the sunset. And for a stay, prefer the Hippie Island. They offer very affordable rooms with great food. Chill out there for a day and visit the Sanapur lake, Anjanadri Temple and other worthy places later.
There are two sides of Hampi 1. the Hampi archeological ruins .
2. hippie island.
thre days are sufficient for the trip depending upon your interest if u want you can stay in hippie island for 2 days and Hampi ruins for 1 day as the ruins are quite interesting but they get boring after are while (personal opinion) and can be explored in one day by a vehicle.
Hippie island as the name suggests it's a chilled out place so you can stay as long as you feel like but you can change the days according to your interest.
