For Hampi trip, just 8 hours are enough. Lot of Autos / Taxis available to cover in 8 hours. We hired the auto for Rs.700 and covered in and around Hampi. If you prefer to stay for 48 hours best option is to hire the bicycle there.. Buy a map and explore it.

From Pune you can book a bus upto Hosapete which is near about 10hours journey and then from Hosapete to Hampi is 30 minutes (13km) journey. you can visit to-
1) Virupaksha Temple
2) Vithala Temple Complex
3) Elephant Stables
4) Lotus Mahal
5) Queens Bath
6) Dasara Dibba(King Sitting place)
7) Matanga Hill
8) Monkey Temple
9) Underground Temple
10) Hemakuta Hill Temple
11) Bath from Laxmi Elephant
You can cover all the place in 48 hours.

48 hours means, 2 days/ 1 night. Its almost perfect to discover Hampi Pilgrimage area. You should board bus from Pune (Swargate) to Hospete, which is 12 kms from Hampi. From Hospete you will get bus to Hampi which costs Rs. 16 per head. You can also get auto rikshaw who may charge approx. 150-200. I will suggest you to get print out of maps of Hampi which you can download from hampi.in . First of all visit Matanga Hills from where you can have birds eye view of Hmapi, and then explore Sacred center area on foot. Next day morning leave your room by 7.30 am, rent out a bicycle and explore Royal center area and Vitthal mandir, approx distance 20kms. You can go for hostels also. Backpacking trip is so common in Hampi and safe too.

Get a map..hire a moped and start exploring.most of the places include temple ruins.you can trek matanga hill for best sunrise view and go on a coracle ride at sanapur lake.stay on the other side of lake (hippie island) to experience hippie hampi and if you’re travelling solo..better stay in a hostel

2 days are enough in Hampi if you can squeeze out full time. There are direct buses running from pune. One day you can cover the town side, that's where most of the ruins and attractions are, another day you can cover hippie Island side. Prefer to stay on hippie Island its better there. Also do note the ferry connecting both side stops after 5.30pm so time accordingly. Goan corner, manju's homestay, nargilla guesthouse, hema Guesthouse etc are good places to stay. If you want to try cheaper tents then check chinnas campsite and pradips tents. Monkey Temple, matanga hill, sunset point are good places to see sunrise and sunset.

Take a direct Bus from Pune to Hospet. From there it's just a few minutes to Hampi. Or if trains are your thing, you'd have to switch trains cause there's no direct train to Hospet. 48 hours are more than enough to explore Hampi. Just keep an all informative Map, a moped/bike/bicycle, and good eye for beauty ready for the marvelous Hampi.

I don't understand what people are saying here... You will never get enough of Hampi, I visited it 3 times as of now and every time I got to know new thing or place... But yeah!!! if you are visitor, want to visit the place to just tick it off from your bucket list 2days are enough for it...
Just hire an auto and cover...
Bikes are not allowed in Hampi(recent rule) you can also go through my trip and photo blog...

I was there for two days and we stayed in one of the guest houses in Hippie Island, on the other side of the river. I think that was our best decision:) Remember to carry cash, sunscreen, shades, and a cap!
The last boat is around 5 PM to get to and from Hippie Island to Hampi city. You can take a bus to Hospet and then catch the sunrise and later head to the other side of the river. Don't miss the sunset and sunrises. The auto drivers there are very helpful and will take you to all the spots. You can hire one for a few hours or a day for about 800 bucks. You can also rent a bike and ride around. Apart from the usual sites and ruins, Hampi is also good for bouldering and there's a sound healing session that happens twice a day on the other side of the river. Beware and enjoy the monkeys! Do some cafe hopping if you're on a leisure trip! The German bakery stuff is amazing. Moreover, plan your trip but stay open to surprises and stumble upon stuff as you go along! Have fun!
