If you have a connecting flight, I would suggest not to go anywhere because the main attractions in the city will take at least 2-3 hours to reach from there. But in general, you can cover Bangalore Fort, Tipu's Summer Palace, Lalbagh Botanical Garden in 6 hours or so.

Places to visit in ur time is vidana soudha , cubbon park, vishweswaraya museum, lalbaug garden, bull temple, Orion mall n iscon... fr shopping try to go shivaji nagar, commercial street, brigade road, mg road, chickpet... bangalore palace too...

Bangalore is extremely bad in terms of traffic jam. So just pick one place which you can cover , otherwise most part of the day will just go commuting on read.
