Both places are Nice. But In mid may u ll get haevy rush there. if u want to enjoy adventure sports then just visit rishikesh for rafting , bunji jumping, zip line and camping . and if u want to enjoy hills with activities then go for manali. u can enjoy rafting , biking , paragliding there.

Dont go for manali on a solo trek Rishikesh can be gud idea for solo travelling It explore you to learn the custom and culture closely.

Go to old manali preferably. But I will suggest you to go for Parvati Valley. That place will make you realise the charm of solo trip
