Agree with Bijal Daman and Diu is very difficult to do together. With Daman you can do Silvasa , which is almost 170-180 km distance from Mumbai and good for 2 to 3 days. While With Diu you can do somnath , Dwaraka and Gir which will take more days.

Firstly, daman and diu are miles apart by road, but comparatively close by sea route. However, there is no such sea transportation connecting both as of now. I would recommend to visit diu over daman. You can find more information about the same in the link to my blog given below. Daman and Diu will be difficult to be visited together. You can visit Diu in 2 days (I visited last year from Ahmedabad), and then proceed with Daman separately. Diu is relatively cheaper than other Union territories and you can find a mid-ranged hotel in 2000/night.
