It will depend upon your city where you start. Reaching Rishikesh - The best way is to take the early morning seater train from Delhi ( to Haridwar. And a local bus from Haridwar to the bus depot in Rishikesh (bus fare is within 100 bucks). Or you can take a direct train from your city and alight at Haridwar Station. From the bus depot we had take an auto to the point beyond which vehicles aren't allowed. And rest by foot. Since we booked our stay across Laxman Jhula it was quite a walk. Accommodation - We booked our stay in a hostel but fortunately a double deluxe room was available. And the price was pocket friendly. If you opt for dorms the price is even cheaper. Breakfast wasn't included. There are lots of hostels around. You can select the area where you want to stay. The reason for choosing across Laxman Jhula was better stay options although the food served is vegetarian there. Exploring within the city - Best way to explore would be by foot. To avoid the crowd we used to wake up by 4.30 am and take a walk, enjoy the sunrise and the empty roads. Best part was taking pictures without public intrusion😂😂. But one day we rented out a two-wheeler (for 400 bucks entire day) to visit Neelkanth and other places. Eating places - You'll pass by numerous eateries catering to western palate along with dozens of German bakeries. So you can keep trying all the bakeries till you find your taste. But I liked the one closest to Laxman Jhula which gives you the best view especially during Ganga Aarti. You may also find good reviews of Chotiwala but honestly it is average. Nothing special. The street food vendors sell better tasting delights. Ginger lemon honey tea - 50 Small delights - 30 Chotiwala - chole bature 100 Lassi - 90 You take for breakfast to Little Buddha. We ended up visiting that place thrice a day!!! Hope this helps. In case you have any queries feel free to drop a message
