I had done the trek in June. this year it snowed heavily, so just in case better do it in late June or early July. the route to chandrataal and rohtang pass would have opened by then.

June to begining of October, although to get the maximum snow you should go from June to September. Early October you may witness fresh snowfall . Mid october you will reach the Pass only if you are lucky enough. As it might get closed till that time
