From Chennai airport, take an auto which you will get just out of the airport and get a drop at the bus stand. There are several buses plying from Chennai to Pondicherry. But you take East Coast road buses which will take you thru the coastline and you will love to see the beaches all the way and you will definitely fall in love with the road. Its smooth like butter and there is not a single chance of getting stuck in traffic as its a highway. Not all buses ply on East Coast road as there are buses who takes market road and it is too much crowdy and you will not love the travel and will feel hectic n tired. You can take AC Coach but make sure you take window seats in any of the last 3 rows, you will get amazing view. Also if you want to take non AC coach I can bet you will not regret as that is also the best one in budget, all open windows n cool breeze will definitely make you fall in love with the travel. I myself have traveled in both the mode. It will take 4 hours to reach Pondicherry. You will not get tired nor feel hectic. Enjoy.
