Hey, Thanks a lot for clearing the timings. I was planning for February 😬, But as the roads are closed, Will go in june now.... Is there any permit required on this route?
Hey Shashank, I had been to spiti in august this year man ... It's always better to go from shimla so that you gain altitude slowly and steadily and that's good for riding .. no as such permits required for Indians ... It's a lovely place to ride and also to be in ... You would need around 8 days if you are into ride in spiti Valley ... Day 1 :- Start from shimla after shimla sight seeing ... reach narkanda or Jeori for a night halt ... If you get time you can hike peak in narkanda ... Day 2 :- From here you have to reach Sangla or Chitkul via Kharcham dam route ... this is a road with serepentine bends all the way till sangla ... After this opens up a broad greener lovely place called Chitkul ... the last ville of India China border ... Day 3:- After staying in Chitkul or Sangla for a night ... you start your journey towards Nako Monastery ... On the way you canalis Visit kalpa which s a loved hil station by locals ... Day 4 :- After a visit to nako Monastery ... it's your turn to reach tabo and then to mud village today ... Tabo has the oldest monastery in India and mud village has the 500 year old mummy as an attraction ... Day 5:- This day you have to reach Kaza and on the way you can visit Dhankar Village ... which has a lake and a lovely monastery to see ... Day 6 and 7 :- You obviously need these two days to visit komic , the highest post office village in the world and also hikkim which has the highest motorable road in the world ... On day 7 you can see Kee monastery. langza village and also Chicham bridge which is an highest suspension bridge in the entire asia ... And also reach Chandertal camp the same day ... Day 8 :- After spending a starry night in Chandertal camps ... and visiting Chandertal lake ... you have an entire day to reach manali ... via chattru and gramphoo ... If at all you are trying a ride or a visit to this rugged place in Himachal in winters when it snows ... then you can only reach Kaza from shimla and come back all the way in the same route ... For the Details of phone networks ... Bsnl works everywhere apart from the stretch from losar after kaza till you cross gramphoo and reach ROHTANG pass ... And no need to book your stays anywhere on the way as there are hundreds of hotels ... zostels and also homestays offering various rooms as per your budget and luxury ... You will come back a new person after you pay a visit to this delightful place on Himachal Pradesh ... Meanwhile....don't miss to keep your body strong before your trip as spiti offers all possible physical challenges that a place can offer ... Happy Travelling Bro!!!

The Manali-Kaza route is roughly 200 km and takes almost 12 hours to cover (on a good day). You cross two mountain passes – Rohtang Pass at the start and the Kunzum Pass further ahead. The Mid of June is the best time to visit.

Dear fellow traveler, Spiti is a beautiful valley in the Himachal Pradesh State. The best time to visit Spiti largely depends on the route you wish to take. While one is via Manali: Manali – Rohtang Pass – Gramphu – Chattru – Kunzum Pass – Kaza (Spiti Valley); the other one via Shimla – Kinnaur Valley as Shimla – Kinnaur – Nako – Sumdo (Spiti Valley) – Tabo – Kaza. Here is a seasonal breakdown: Where to Visit in Spiti & When April to mid-May: At this time, the snow starts to melt. A number of roads are opened too like road from Kaza to Losar. However, road from Kunzum Pass towards Manali open only in the June month. This is the time when reaching Spiti is feasible and a number of adventure enthusiasts make their plans regarding tour to Spiti. This is an ideal time to admire snow-clad mountains and play in the snow. If you do not really mind low tourist count, can stay amid basic facilities and do not mind certain road blockages, you can travel at during these months. Mid – May to mid – July: This is the real peak season in Spiti when the valley welcome hordes of tourists who wish to get respite from city heat. Most of the road links by the mid-June get opened and thus sightseeing in and around Spiti is possible. All the hotel also now offer complete facilities. A visit to Chandra tal can also be made. Due to the melting of the snow, you might have to drive on water crossings, thus try to arrive at your destination in the afternoon. Mid – July to August: These are the monsoon months when monsoon is in full swing in Kinnaur and it is better to avoid this time as the area is prone to landslides. However, Spiti valley itself remains fine at this time, so if you make plans do not forget to buy cartons of apple as they grow the best at this time. September to mid-October: The autumn season make Spiti absolutely colorful with lush green trees, orange leaves, aqua clean waters and white snow in the background, making the valley, a beauty. The mornings and evenings are quite cold with temperatures going to 2-3 degree Celsius while the days are pleasant. Do not forget to pack woolens. If you are a snow-lover, this might not be an ideal time for you. Try to confirm the weather conditions before making plans as sometimes Kunzum pass starts getting snow as early as September. November to March: These are winter months in Spiti filled with extreme weather conditions, lack of basic necessities like electricity, several road blockages, water freezing in taps, and almost no hotels offering accommodation. A number of road links at this time on both the routes are closed. If you still make plans, be sure of you mental and physical fitness as there can delays and a lot of risks.
