Hi Sonalika! Great question! I think taking the local transport, hanging out in the same haunts as locals and chatting up with anyone and everyone, is a great way to observe a community from within. I had a lovely experience in Udaipur where I started off with jewellery shopping and ended up attending Ganesh puja at the shopkeeper's home.The real power to travel lies in conversations.

Mostly if you’re with a tour guide he’ll explain it to you. If not, asking localities would help you learn about their culture better rather than internet. Like if you’re travelling by auto or something, just asking the driver normal questions about traffic and transport would be a good conversation starter. Hope this was helpful
