The house in which this famous author was born is located in a little village called Malalgama and is now a Folk Museum Complex.

The surroundings

The house is an example of an olden day Sinhalese dwelling with a garden full of indigenous plants. It has been made to look like the picture he painted in his literary works.

A bit of history

The rear part of the house is said to be over 200 years old and it is quite amazing that this little charm home survived World War II as well.

The memory of the author

A grassy mound on the right side of the house holds the ashes of Martin Wickramasinghe. It is said that he often spent much time here during his childhood.

Antiques

The museum today displays the antiques that the author has collected through the years of his life which is worth your time if you are lodged nearby at hotels near Galle Fort.
