That highly awaited long weekend needs to be utilised judiciously. No other place near Delhi-NCR can do better justice with a long weekend than Kasauli. The road all throughout is great with some amazing stopovers like Murthal Parantha Dhabas and the Karnal Haveli.

Once you enter Kasauli, the traffic and chaos of the highways suddenly disappears and you find yourself in a very clean, small and quiet town, in fact it is more of a Military Cantonment. Multiple roads wind into the town with trees lined up alongside and the Sun barely able to peak through them onto the roads. More than the hotels, the home-stays are really popular here with some of them being truly remarkable.

The place has a couple of small street markets and cafes lined up along the streets serving a variety of cuisines and suit your tastes. The Christ Church at the heart of the town is a must visit. But the best part of this hill station are the walks that it has to offer you. You can just pick a road and walk down in the middle of the woods interrupted by the Military establishments which are obviously managed very well. As you explore this small town on foot, you will come across some great view points like the Monkey Point which gives some great views of the mountains but as the name suggests you got to be careful from the mischievous Monkeys as well. Another set of view points are the Sunset Point and the Sunrise Point and as the names suggest, if you are at these points at the right time, you got some great pictures and the view is a treat to your eyes.

The Sunrise point also gives you a glimpse of the mountains towards Solan and Shimla while the Sunset point offers great views of Chandigarh with the Sukhna Lake visible from the naked eye. The walk across the town will also give you an exact idea of the height of this town with a small but very clear Marble stone marked with the exact figure from the sea level. In winters, if you get really lucky, a snow fall could also welcome you and make your visit truly memorable which is what all of us want from a weekend.
