India Gate is the most iconic monument in India's history that stands tall since many decades. The 42-meter-high archway is located towards the Eastern end of Rajpath. India Gate was built to commemorate the sacrifice of soldiers who died during World War I and Afghan War. INDIA has been scripted in bold letters on either side of the monument. In 1971, following the Bangladesh Liberation war, Amar Jawan Jyoti was established beneath the Memorial Archway, which served as India's Tomb of Unknown Soldier.

India Gate is amongst the most popular tourist destination in New Delhi. It is always crowded in evenings, especially on the weekends. It's a perfect picnic spot for families with sprawling gardens, fountains and vast spaces around the monument. A number of street hawkers sell street food and various merchandise. There is a boat club with paddle boats and row boats. The prices are pretty reasonable and are priced at Rs 50 for a 15 minute ride for a person.

One can experience the beautiful ambience at the time of sunset and also in monsoon season. Another innovative way to explore India Gate and other historical monuments is on World's coolest machine the Segway. Segway tours can be booked online through Bookmyshow.com or www.birdres.com
