The above features make the Bastar region a center of attraction for the outside world. One of these, Chitrakote waterfall, is one of the most famous waterfalls not only in Chhattisgarh state but also in India. This waterfall is the most beautiful part of the Indravati river. This waterfall has always been a center of attraction for tourists due to its vastness, attractive and enchanting appearance, easy access and perennial nature.

Features of Chitrakote waterfall

Its specialty is that during the rainy season it is blood-red, while on the moonlit nights of summer it appears absolutely white.

Chitrakote waterfall is located amidst the dense forests of the Vindhya mountain range.  This area is known for its rich biodiversity. This area has many waterfalls, underground caves, dense forests and a rich environment full of animals.

The height of Chitrakote waterfall is 29 meters i.e. 95 feet and the width is 980 feet i.e. 299 meters. Due to the wide form of Chitrakote waterfall, it is considered similar to the world's largest 'Niagara Falls' and due to its horse shoe like mouth, this waterfall is also called 'Niagara of India'.

To go from the height of the waterfall to the river, you have to go down 200-250 stairs and going into the river and seeing and feeling the water stream falling from a height of 90 feet can be a bit scary, but it is also thrilling.

The huge amount of water falling from this waterfall located between dense trees and Vindhya mountain ranges captivates the tourists.

Chitrakote waterfall is worth seeing in every season, but it is a more thrilling experience to see it in the rainy season. The roar of the huge water body from a height during the rainy season creates thrill and shivers. Dense forests are situated around the Chitrakote waterfall, which further enhances its natural beauty. You can enjoy the thrill of the waterfall even in the dark of night, because a light show is held here at night.

There is a huge Shivling and Mahadev temple on the bank of the waterfall. Which has been built recently, but if you go below the waterfall, you will find hundreds of small Shivlings. Many of these Shivlings are also considered to be from ancient times, on which the water of the waterfall falls directly, as if Lord Shiva is being anointed with water. You can also enjoy boating here to see the beauty of Chitrakote waterfall closely.  Getting into the river and seeing and feeling the huge water stream falling from a height of 90 feet is a bit scary, but full of thrill and excitement.
