Kashmir is gearing up for yet another boost in its tourism sector. A three day snow sports festival is being organised at Bhaderwah in the Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir. The festival is being hosted by the Indian Army, starting from 18th February.
As per the latest reports, the Additional Deputy Commissioner of Bhaderwah, Mr Rakesh Kumar stated, "The primary objective to organise snow carnival at this time is to give the much-needed boost to tourism in Bhaderwah valley which is the mainstay of the economy of the locals who have suffered a lot due to the coronavirus pandemic".
A fun-filled entertainment for the locals and the tourists
The event will be facilitated and pioneered by the Rashtriya Rifles unit of the Indian Army.
A plethora of activities have been planned at the festival. Various winter sports and activities like skiing, snow sledding and snowboarding will keep the visitors engaged. Besides there will be several snowman making competitions held at Thanthera, Jaie Valley, Sartingal and Padri.
A thrilling live performance has been organised by the a band at Bhaderwah to entertain the tourists. Additionally several other competitions and photography exhibitions will be held at the festival premises.
The Jammu and Kashmir Tourism department will set up various stalls along with the High Altitude Warfare School, and Indian Institute of Skiing and Mountaineering.
The main patrons of the festival
The competitions, activities and events will occur under the supervision of Sub Divisional Officer of Thathri, Mr Athar Amin Zargar. He has been appointed the nodal officer for the snow festival in Bhaderwah.
Mr Rakesh Kumar has attended a high level meeting of Army officers, civil administration and other stakeholders of the tourism industry to ensure successful execution of the event.
Mr Manoj Kotwal, a local event manager, stated, "The Army, besides maintaining peace and law and order, is going an extra mile by taking the much required initiative to bring back the derailed tourism industry to life."
An initiative to promote toursim
The brilliant effort by the Indian Army to promote tourism in the region, has been welcomed overwhelmingly by the locals in the valley. The residents are enthusiastic about the festival; expressing their interest to be part of the festival.
Mr Yudhvir Thakur, District Development Council (DDC) member of Bhaderwah (west), have conveyed his gratitude to the Army and the district administration for this proactive initiative. According to Thakur, the festival will not only boost tourism but also will generate employment for the locals.
Even Mr Rakesh Kumar shared the same feelings about the festival. He considers the event as the perfect opportunity for the youth in the valley to exhibit their talent and be appreciated.
Known as Mini Kashmir, Bhaderwah is located amid a picturesque landscape. With the snow festival starting from 18th Feb, the place will undergo a delightful transformation; alluring more and more tourists into the region.
