A Sunset I can never forget - Pachetia Hill, Jodhpur

I stumbled on a giant rock and grabbed Rashi’s hand to keep me from falling. We had already passed through the maze of blue houses, stopped at a lake, met Gita aunty who invited us for tea, talked with Ram who warned us about the dogs uphill and were jumping over rocks on our way to reach the top. The wind had suddenly picked up pace and felt much cooler. It sort of felt heavy and comfortable like a blanket covering me at night. We had to reach on time to see the famous sun set that the Zostel owner was talking about. Rhea pointed to a group of foreigners ahead of us climbing through a similar route to reach the hilltop. We felt much more relaxed now, we were almost there.

Nothing could have prepared us for the sight we saw. The hill, extended outwards, hanging in the middle of nowhere, like a Kingfisher’s beak. Above us was a sky studded with stars, below; was the sea of blue houses that we had crossed. We sat down immediately, feeling the cold solid rock beneath us. The sun had set, leaving a painter’s unfinished canvas for us to witness. Strokes of indigo, orange, purple, yellow, were painted all across the sky. We put our favorite track of the trip, Aaftaab by Local Train, on our phone and watched the sky unfold its color, in silence. I felt complete then and there, like I had reached home after years. The words of Aaftaab filled the void as I slipped into my reverie.

Have you ever felt the same way? When was the last time you felt complete and in awe that made you speechless?
