Last village accessible to civilians situated at the top of India. It is the top most part of India beyond 10-15km Pak border starts. An amazing village and its people with unique culture and hospitality, itz a lush green outpost of India. On a clear day one can view even k2 from this village. Don't miss to enjoy the beautiful night sky.

Hunder lies between Turtuk to Diskit. A place where you can find greenery, river, mountains, snow and sand dunes. Double humped Bactrian camel are the main attraction. They have interesting history if you dig each camels generation back to centuries.

First town in the Nubra valley along the Shyok river. 32 meter statue of Maitreya Buddha near Diskit Monastery facing down the Shyok River towards Pakistan is the highlight of this city. Culturally it is the last point where Buddhist traces can be found.

I made this village as a place for night halt to cover Nubra river. This village has a beautiful Monastery and ruins of a palace. A traditional Ladhaki kitchen museum. You can explore the village and spend evening along the banks of river Nubra. Don't miss to enjoy the beautiful night sky.

Breathing trek through the rocks to reach this place. Starting from Sumur crossing the final check post at Panamik beyond which the road leads to Siachin base camp which is closed for civilians unless you have a special permission from Diskit SHO. Few meters from check post follow the road down to left end at a bridge crossing Nubra and turn left. Watch out for the Monastery on the top of the hill. You can take your vehicle till top or can trek through the rocks, actually rock climbing. The priest lives in the near by village so before proceeding enquir about the monk at the village before the bridge.

Nothing much, last point where you can stand and view the mountains and the road that lead to the highest battle field on earth- The Siachin Glacier. You can visit natural hot spring here and have few roadside restau. While returing you will find a small group of cliff to your right after passing Trisha village. Between those cliff has a beautiful Yarub TSO least exploited. I was there alone for 1 hour totally cut off from the out side world. Calm peace... You have to cross a dry river bed to get into this.

This is my second tour to the cold desert. I had two plan for this trip. Nubra valley exploration and Stok Kangri expedition. My plan was like

Leh->Turtuk(night halt)->Hunder->Diskit->Sumur(night halt)->Panamik->Karduga La->Leh.

I hired an Innova from Leh that cost me 13k from Leh to Leh for 3 days. I was alone. That was thrilling solo experience. One big vehicle with just 2 people myself and my driver. Don't miss to enjoy the beautiful night sky.

Turtuk :

No one can imagine India has such a beautiful village at the last point of civilian access with equally cute people. The village has some of its own uniqueness like natural AC, cold drinks cooled by diverted streams in front of their houses, all type of vegetables and fruits are cultivated here and stunning view of Karakorum ranges including mighty K2.

Hunder:

Hunder lies between Turtuk to Diskit. A place where you can find greenery, river, mountains, snow and sand dunes. Double humped Bactrian camel are the main attraction. They have interesting history if you dig each camels generation back to centuries.

Diskit:

First town in the Nubra valley along the Shyok river. 32 meter statue of Maitreya Buddha near Diskit Monastery facing down the Shyok River towards Pakistan is the highlight of this city. Culturally it is the last point where Buddhist traces can be found.

Panamik (Escha Gompa & Yarub TSO):

Nothing much, last point where you can stand and view the mountains and the road that lead to the highest battle field on earth- The Siachin Glacier. You can visit natural hot spring here and have few cafes to have food. While returning you will find a small group of cliff to your right after passing Trisha village. Between those cliff has a beautiful Yarub TSO least exploited. I was there alone for 1 hour totally cut off from the out side world. Calm peace... You have to cross a dry river bed to get into this.
