This trip was special as it checked off three of my 2018 goals. Camping, travelling solo and striking conversation with strangers - all of them way out of my comfort zone.
How did it start:
I had heard about a travel group called Vagabond Experiences through a friend. Reading the event description on their Facebook page was enough for me to decide that I was doing this all by myself.
About the place:
Revdanda is a secluded beach two hours from Mandwa. Our campsite had absolutely no sign of civilization. Open skies, the sound of waves and a starry night is what you have for company (and the people of course). The Revdanda fort is a 30 min walk along the beach.
Itinerary:
Day 1:
1. Board ferry from Gateway of India. You can check the timings online. Weekends are usually crowded, so make sure you reach an hour before the scheduled time to avoid long queues. It's gonna be a one hour ride and and you will have the seagulls and an open sea for company.
2. If you are hungry you can grab a quick bite from Kiki's or Boardwalk by Flamboyante.
3. Hop into a shared rickshaw (8 seater) and enjoy the two hour drive. The route will transport you to Goa instantly.
4. We reached the campsite, were allotted our tents and made aware of the facilities and schedule for the evening
5. We spent the evening soaking up the beautiful landscape, watched the sunset, and took a stroll by the beach which we had to ourselves. And not to forget admiring the beautifully set up campsite. There was tea and onion bhajjias served - perfect for the weather
6. Post sunset, there was barbecue and the stage was set for some live music and open mic followed by dinner later.
7. When the night got chilly, it made way for some bonfire and the singing continued through the night
Day 2:
1. Woke up to a beautiful sunrise and the calming sound of waves. Something that we seldom experience in our busy lives
2. Some chai and poha for breakfast followed by kite flying since it was Makarsankranti.
3. We were free to laze around the hammocks or walk to the fort. I chose the latter. It was a good 30 min walk and made for some great views and pictures.
4. Wrap up, say goodbyes and head back to Bombay.
Trip Cost: Rs 2,500 + Ferry charges - approx Rs250- Rs 300 depending on the boat you choose
Highlights of the Trip
1. The view: You wake up, open up your tent and you have the beach as your view.
2. Music - The organizers are a talented bunch of people. Great music can never go wrong. This makes them stand out from other organizers who conduct similar trips
3. The crowd: Young crowd, mostly in their early 20's. Students, entrepreneurs, artists - It was an eclectic mix
