DASHIR LAKE: A HIDDEN ONE DAY TREK

In India, mountains are often associated with the Himalayan state of Himachal Pradesh. And in Himachal Pradesh, Manali is the most visited tourist destination that every person, obsessed with mountains has eyes on. Talking about Manali, the world famous Rohtang Pass can never be ignored because of its sublime beauty. But very few (mostly locals) know about a hidden gem just to the West of Rohtang Pass.

Dashir Lake is a high altitude (approximately 4,300 meters) Himalayan great that is not much talked about because of its low-key location and of course, the likes of Bhrighu Lake and Beas Kund lying in the same region. Driving towards Rohtang Pass form Manali, the sky blue coloured lake can be reached either from
1.) The last hairpin bend just before the pass: walk in North West direct along the Rani Nallah to reach a ridge from where a short descent to the lake starts, the lake is visible from this ridge.
2.) Just North of Marhi, on a marked trail with steep ascend. Locals and mules can often be seen walking on these trails.

Talking more about the lake, the lake is more round than other lakes in the region and has waters more blue than most of the lakes. Mount Ghepan(6050 meters) and Hanuman Tibba(5860 meters) can be seen guarding the lake and the ranges of Pir Panjals and Dhauladhar adding to the legend of this beauty. A small temple, built with stones and surrounded by ever vibrant prayer flags also catch the eye.
