Reviews of Nagarjuna Sagar Dam • 4
Nagarjuna Sagar Dam - Hyderabad is not just India's but world's largest masonry dam! Built over Krishna River, it is 1.6 kms long and 124 metres high, thus being symbolic of India's architectural and technological triumph over nature.
11:15am and we reached. So it took 3hrs 15mins to reach my destination including 10mins break. Through the hilly area to the river Krishna on which Nagarjuna sagar dam was built. The river forms the boundary between Nalgonda District in Telangana and Guntur district in Andhra Pradesh states.
Amongst many other great dams and reservoirs built on the ferocious waters of Indian rivers stands one another great embankment on the Krishna river and its tributaries- the Nagarjuna Sagar Dam. While it’s a piece of wondrous creation of man and cement, what followed this exploration was even better as I got to the lakes of reservoir water and then the Nagarjunakonda Island. Earlier known to have been a Buddhist site, this island floats near Nagarjuna Sagar, near the dam, in the Guntur-Nalgonda district of Andhra Pradesh. The interesting ASI (Archaeological Survey of India) sites dug out in the past decade or so makes this an amazing stopover on my trip.
