Ko Samui District Surat Thani Thailand

Srijita Kundu
What did we do?We had ourselves booked for 3 days in Koh Samui, which we realized was a lil too short once we reached the place. So anyways we had to pick and choose which places we actually wanted to see and leave out on some more. I wish I had planned for an extra 1-2 days in Samui.Day 1: We relaxed by the beach side enjoying Thai lunch and foot massage and some delicious seafood dinner by the beach in candlelight.Day 2: We rented a two wheeler from our Resort, yes it was a bit more pricey than the rates in local shops but we would have to submit our original passports as security which we were reluctant to do,so chose the pricier option (Local shops - 200 baht /day; Resort - 300 baht /day). This day we planned to visit the local attractions like - Grandfather and grandmother rocks, Namuang waterfall, Mummified monk, View point, Big Buddha and whatever else caught our eye on the way. We definitely had a good time searching for the ways while trying to use sign language to communicate on the roads, trekking to the waterfall, lunch on beach and many more happy moments. The evening was spent on some shopping in the walking street/fisherman's village in Bo Phut.Day 3: This was the day reserved for our Angthong Marine National Park trip booked with Grand Sea Discovery tours. The trip was booked from a local tours agent in the market and was cheaper than the rates generally seen online. We chose the speed boat option to have a lil bit of adventure rather than the over crowded slow boat. I sincerely hoped the day to be sunny but to my bad luck halfway through the day it rained cats and dogs and our lil' adventure became a lil' more adventure which I am sure many may not have appreciated. They took us to a place for snorkeling first, although this was my first time and I was damn scared to even let go off the boat's ladder but in the very small time frame that I spent in the waters it was amazing for me. Although you don't see much variety of marine life around (could be because of the weather) it was still fun. Next they were supposed to take us to the emerald lake view point but due to the heavy rains had to go for lunch instead to the island housing the main headquarters of the National Park. After an ok-ok sort of lunch we were taken for a kayaking trip around an island. It was definitely enjoyable and again a first time experience for us. Later after some relaxing time we were off to the emerald lake view point and it is definitely not for the faint hearted as you have to climb up around 100 m of stairs (real slim ones) But the view from the top was amazing (I wish it was a sunny day, pictures cud have been way much better). that was the end of it as we started our return journey towards Koh Samui roughing the waters of Gulf of Thailand once again. So that was the last day in Koh Samui. The next day we left the island unwillingly on our onward journey to Bangkok and experience a whole new world.
