Best things to do in Kodagu and sightseeing in Kodagu

So much has been said about Coorg that one heads there with tons of expectations. And luckily, travellers are not disappointed. From the surreal beauty surrounding the small town to its rich flora and fauna, Coorg is a wonderful experience. The laidback town is home to a number of touristy places, though most of them are situated a little further from the center of town. Do visit Abbey Falls for a rejuvenating afternoon and Tadiyendamol, the highest peak in the region, for an overwhelming view of the city below. Coorg is also home to an elephant farm that invites travellers to spend a day with these gentle creatures. The itinerary at the farm includes bathing elephants, feeding them and taking them for a walk. It's a lovely way to spend your day and the experience will stay with you for a long, long time. For foodies, there isn't an opportunity to experiment too much but the food available more than makes up for the lack of experimentation. The local cuisine is simple but delicious. The homestays here offer an experience you can't miss. The warm hospitality, the delicious food and an experience that takes you closer to nature is what Coorg is all about.

On our way to Madikeri from Kushalnagar we saw this place called Nisargadhama. It gives you a glimpse of the beauty you are going to experience in Coorg. It is an artificial forest with a lovely entry on a photogenic hanging bridge. It is more like a garden and I would not recommend spending much time inside if you are in hurry or are planning to visit any national park in Coorg. We had a small coffee break at this place and first time tasted the tasty Coorgi coffee.

Cauvery Nisargadhama is a thick mangrove forest on the back waters of river Cauveri. It is stunning to see mangrove tress fully grown in water as you walk on the wooden bridge that is built across the forest. The trees completely shade sunlight and provide home to birds and monkeys which are quite an entertainment to watch. One can see the black fishes of a certain kind fluttering in the water. There is a ultra-mini zoo with caged white , black and brown rabbits feeding on leaves and straws. Cauvery Nisargadhama is a place to visit if you've never seen mangroves. The ride to cauvery is pleasant and unforgettable with a boulevard of trees shading the highway and pleasant cool breeze that is perennial.

Kakkabbe - Kodagu

It is located about 38kms from Madikeri and is said to be the largest producer of hiney in South East Asia and is a great weekend getaway and also has a rich variety of flora and fauna.
Stayed here at 2 beautiful home-stays. Indraprastha ( https://www.facebook.com/homestay.indraprastha?fref=ts ) and the more popular honey valley estate. Kakkabbe is home to the 2nd highest peak in Karnataka, Tadiyandamol, and there's a lot of greenery around ( as is the norm in most of coorg ! ).

Honnamana Temple - Kodagu

This place is also known as Honnamana Kere and it is a beautiful lake. This is the largest lake in Coorg and also one of the largest in Karnataka. The scenic beauty, green hills and beautiful coffee plantations make it nothing less than Paradise on Earth. There is a small temple here which is dedicated to the extremely revered Goddess Honnamana here. The Goddess is known to have resided in this place and served the welfare of the people here. After her death, the locales built a temple to honor her and she is still said to be protecting the whole region. Another attraction here is the Bagni Festival which includes a number of elaborate rituals and a lot of people take part in the celebrations. Also beautiful are the gorgeous wild animals that you can spot here at times. The best time to visit this temple is during the Gouri Puja.
Whilst listening to various folklores on our way to the Honnamana Lake, also a popular spot for rock climbing, the journey made quite a remark for itself with mighty cliffs and lush background with perfumed richness of coffee.
