We did do some touristy activities – mattha tek at the Naina Devi shrine – buying candles – the prepaid 10 rupees rickshaw ride and finally boating at the Naini lake. In the course of the day it had become windy and cold. Almost everyone was wearing multiple layers and having warm Maggi and sipping tea. The boat ride deserves a little more space. One, there was no haggling – the rate was fixed and the boatman did not ask for any additional tip. Further, the beauty of the surrounding could only be experienced in totality through the panoramic view that the boat ride offered. The boatman was very sociable and set his oars aside to click us.

Boating in the Nainital Lake is a calming experience. You can choose between a self driven peddle or a pilot ridden one. Cost - Rs 200 for a four person boat for an hour. I personally liked the pedal boat without the pilot. Here’s a tip of riding the pedal boat: Don’t try to pedal too hard, it will only tire you. Pedal as if you’re walking and the boat will sail as smooth as silk!

This place is all famous.. Tripadvisor rates it, Lonely Planet rates it. Which is why I went there at the first place. Personally, however, I think the place is overrated. The people take too long to serve food, the food was not freshly prepared and was cold too. It is not worth the money they charge for their food. I would give the place a 2 out of 5.

I visited Nainital in the monsoon. The place is a relief from the scorching heat of Delhi, light woolens were required at the night. There is nothing special to do around Nainital in such short stay, but yes its worth the stay in the lap of nature far from the busy life. The cool weather rejuvenated our body and mind and would love to stay long in this place.
