The largest lake in Himachal, this is a place that is little-known to the outside world. That’s a surprise because it’s very well connected by road. The lake has a circumference of around 3.5kms and is considered sacred. It’s named after goddess Renuka, and if seen from one of the peaks, resembles the shape of a lady sleeping sideways. Activities include boating and a zoo on its perimeter. But the best part is definitely the serene and scenic walk around the lake. It might just be a stroll, but it’d be a stroll you’d remember for a long time.

Jamu Peak - Renuka Ji

Jamu Peak highest peak in Nahan, Its about 8Km far from Renuka Lake. Jamu Peak is well known for nature sight seeing in Nahan.
Rising up from the base of the Renuka Lake, this peak houses the small ancient Jamu temple. I’m not a religious one, but this place definitely made me feel a divine presence around. The old stone structure lies on a hillside facing the lake, and the temple is mostly devoid of anyone but the priest. The calmness is spiritually uplifting. From up here the lake seems to be in the shape of a sleeping lady, which according to mythology is the embodiment of the goddess Renuka. Buses get you directly to this place, but just like Tape ka Tiba, this place is best enjoyed on foot.

Tape ka Tiba - Renuka Ji

It has great mythological significance, it is said to be the place where Maharish Jamdagni and his wife Bhagwati Renuka Ji meditated on this hillock.
A few hours trek from Renuka Ji takes you up a small hillock that provides you with a breathtaking view of the entire landscape. Buses are available from Dadahu, but hiking the trail is definitely the best way. The forest trail takes you through a variety of flora, small creeks and waterfalls. If you make it on time, be assured of being a spectator to one of the best sunrises you’ll ever see.
