Sukhna Lake - Sector

Sukhna Lake is situated in Chandigarh, India, is a small reservoir at the foothills of the Himalayas, the Shivalik slopes. This 3 km² rainfed lake was made in 1958 by damming the Sukhna Choe, a regular stream descending from the Shivalik Hills. The lake was made by Le Corbusier and the Chief Engineer P L Verma. To safeguard its quietness Corbusier demanded that the highest point of the dam (promenade) to be disallowed for vehicular traffic. Sukhna is a conjoined piece of the city of Chandigarh. Le Corbusier had predicted that the city's inhabitants would be drawn it for the 'care of the body and spirit'. The city organizers were profoundly joined to the lake. To such an extent that Pierre Jeanneret's fiery debris were inundated in the lake in 1970, according to his wishes by his niece. The lake is confronting major issues like weed abundance, catchment sufficiency and silting that are essentially contracting its size and depth of the lake.
The 3km long beautiful manmade Sukhna lake offers a view of the foothills of Shivalik range. The well maintained and clean surroundings of lush trees add to the beauty of this place. Sit by the lake and enjoy the cool breeze or go boating! History: This lake was created in 1958 by damming the Sukhna Choe, a seasonal stream coming down from the Shivalik Hills. Originally the seasonal flow entered the lake directly causing heavy siltation. To check the inflow of silt, land measuring 2542 hectares was acquired in the catchments area and put under vegetation. Le Corbusier’s greatest creation, his vision for Sukhna lake still lives on. Carrying on his legacy, till date no motor boats are allowed in the lake and neither are any motor vehicles on the promenade.

Personally, I like this place the most. It's a good place to go in evening & spend some time there… If you are there on Sunday, don’t miss the cultural program by Chandigarh Tourism Dept.

Finally, after soaking in quite the taste of Amritsar, the journey found a home back to where it almost began. At Chandigarh, I stopped by Sukhna lake, as it was time for sunset. This placid lake dances along with waves that are so calm that everything merges languorously in it.

Rose Garden - Sector

Originally named as the Government Rose Garden or the Jayalalitha Rose Garden after the name of the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, this is a wonderful place to spend time in. This garden is spread over a hilly area and it is an extremely beautiful and romantic place. You should best visit this place during mid- summer to find the roses in full blossom. The different colours and the sweet fragrance of the flowers are just awesome. This place is perfect for spending time during the afternoons on the lush green fields of this rose garden.
Rose garden is spread over 30 acres of land having 1600 different species of roses. These have been planted beautifully carved out lawns and flowers. I have not any good photograph of rose belts because most of the time I visited the place without camera or in out of season. Every year, either at end of February or beginning of March, a big festival known as Rose Festival, is celebrated at this garden. Don’t miss the musical fountains in the evening.
