Elephant Falls - Shillong

Located a little outside the main city of Shillong in Meghalaya, this is a beautiful two tiered waterfall. The two parts are named as the Wir Phang falls and the Wei Laplam Falls. These two flow along dingles of rock and then blend together to justify its name which is the Elephant Falls. This is no doubt a must see in the state and people not only from other places but also from the same state cannot resist repeated trips to this tranquil destination. The place is much away from the hustle and bustle of the city streets and thus very peaceful and refreshing too. The monsoons are the time when you find the Elephant Falls in its full vigor with snow white, foamy water gushing down the falls. This ckear color makes the perfect combination with the shades of greenery around. There are also a number of medicial plants and shrubs whose goodness get infused in this therapeutic waters of the Falls.

A museum where you find all details and information not only about Meghalaya but all the Sister States which include Arunachal Pradesh, Tripura, Assam, Sikkim and Nagaland and Manipur. This is a museum for indigeneous exhibits which are directly related to everything about the culture and lifestyles of North- East India. This includes galleries of costumes, food, occuopation, musical instruments and art and crafts. Here you also get to know all about the tribes now and then of this whole region. All this have made this a prime attraction for tourists.
This place captures sentiments of all the different cultures of the indigenous people of the north east. An informative place with beautiful photographs and artifacts showcasing the different histories. I could write a whole lot on this place itself but would let some pictures above do the talking. If interested, a day's dedication would be required.

Elephant Falls is perched at the outskirts of the major city of Shillong. It is right around 12 kms from the hurrying around of the city life. The extraordinary piece of Elephant Falls in Meghalaya is that it is a two-level waterfall set in the stones' dingles. The magnificence of Meghalaya Elephant Falls is expanded complex by the two falls-the Wir Phang Falls and the Wei Iaplam Falls. In spite of the fact that both of them are occupied traveler spots, none competes the voluminous and rich Elephant Falls. Elephant Falls at Meghalaya singularly holds the fascination of Upper Shillong. Extraordinarily in the stormy seasons, Elephant Falls goes to its full life and legitimizes its name. Let's separate the visitors, even local people can't avoid the allurement of a trip in the months of July and August. Mostly people come here during the summer months, as at this time the water fall looks best.

Munchies Shillong - Shillong

This is a typical Meghalayan joint where they serve very nice Italian food at cheap rates. Mostly a place popular among teenagers and young people, the ambience here is very exciting. They play rock music and the coffee served here is made by hand- stirring. The number of people to attend is less so you might have to wait at peak hours, the prices and food however makes up for this problem.
Easy on pocket, this little eatery also offers an open air patio seating along with cozy bamboo structure built on a level up which can pretty much give you a feeling of climbing up a tree house.

Cafe Shillong - Shillong

This is an exquisite B&B in the center point of Shillong-it feels like a home stay. The rooms are spotless and large (and loaded with FabIndia furniture)! They have complimentary wi-fi as well. Overall, this is one of the better places you'll discover in Shillong. The main drawback is that they don't have and supper, however you can arrange it from an eatery close by. Very well kept up agreeable and attractive bed & breakfast.... Moreover offers the kind of a home stay. The B&B offers four rooms. One suite room, two extravagance and one fancy. It is extremely well located and has simple access to the city's heart. perfect for a very getaway while being amidst the town. Cafe Shillong is always first on the priority list when it comes to a short trip in Shillong. The place has been designed to make you fell 100% comfortable and secured in the unknown place.
Check out Café Shillong, a bustling hangout of local revelers. Join the fun with live music, delicious steak, a cool drink and the electrifying atmosphere.

Laitumkhrah - Shillong

This is a census town in Shillong and the name literally in Khasi means the "Place where the River Umkhrah originates". The place has a number of holiday resorts and the natural beauty and cold weather are in itself reasons enough to spend a day or two here. there are also churches and schools over here along with the Ramkrishna Mission of Meghalaya and the famous Kalpatru Sweet Shop.
Laitumkhra has couple of really good cafés (the best one too ) and eating joints and is connected to PB by shared taxi at Rs. 20/head. The place is a hangout zone for most school and college students of Shillong owing to several educational institutions in the vicinity. I stayed in Hotel Yalana which offered good rooms and facilities at very competitive rates. Another good option is to stay at Café Shillong B&B or if you have more budget then opt for Aerodene Cottages.

Bara Bazar - Shillong

Locally known as Lewduh, this is one of the oldest and largest traditional markets and trade center of the North East India. Most of the shopkeepers here are women and there are a number of monolithic idols of gods and goddesses out here. A number of religious ceremonies are performed here every year and this place is directly managed by the government authorities. The best thing you can shop from here are flat bamboo items such as mats, hats and other decoratives. It is suggested that you do not bargain much out here as the women are poor and they work really very hard with very low sales turnover due to the remote location.
Often dismissed by cab drivers or guides as 'just a place to buy wholesale vegetables', this huge local market place, characterised by criss-crossing narrow alleyways, often allowing only one person to pass at a time, is a world in itself. It’s a street photographer's dream come true! One can easily get lost in this labyrinth selling all things under the sun for everyday needs, and there are whole alleys specialising in one single product- from obvious fruits, vegetables to kitchen utensils, cane furniture, fish, all kinds of meat, grocery, cloth, sweets. Morning hours is the best time to see all the buzz, consider having breakfast in one of the alleys serving quintessential poori-bhaji.

Shillong Golf Course - Shillong

This is one of the highest golf courses of Asia and also is the reason for which Meghalaya is known as the "Gleneagles of the East". This is a 18 hole full golf course amidst some of the most beautiful sceneries of the country. This golf course is historically significant too because this was the place where a number of British personalities tried their hands with their clubs during the Summer season. Till today some major golfing events of the country are organized over here.
With an uncanny resemblance to the Glen Eagle Course in the United States, this golf course captivates tourists from all over the world.
