
A boost in Odisha tourism came in with the news of the upcoming Green airport at Puri and two more small airports. The state is expected to experience a surge in the influx of tourists both from India and abroad. The news was announced at Udan Utsav celebration at the Veer Surendra Sai Airport in Jharsuguda by the Union Civil Aviation Minister, Jyotiraditya Scindia.
As per the latest reports, the minister stated, “The Greenfield Airport at Puri and the Phase II expansion of Veer Surendra Sai Airport in Jharsuguda will commence following responses from the state government".

What message was conveyed at the Udan Utsav celebration?
Mr Scindia reiterated the fact that the common man of India can now avail flights which was once a dream to them. The Indian Air space, under the flagship of Mr. Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister of India, will not only be the domain for rich people but available for all enthusiastic Indian travellers.
The development of Jharsuguda airport, the upcoming Green airport at Puri and the other two small airports are the testimony of the success of the Udan scheme and the joint initiatives by the State and the Central governments. Accolades were showered on the Odisha government for promoting development to boost up tourism in its region.

This will include helipads and water aerodromes. Airlines and routes have also increased significantly due to the Udan scheme. A special joy ride has also been arranged at the Udan Utsav, especially for the children and the elderly to celebrate Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.
Mr. Scindia has also promised to resolve the licensing and permission issues lingering on the Utkela and Jeypore airports of Odisha. He also highlighted the importance and significance of Jharsuguda airport, which did not experience any sharp decline in the number of flyers in comparison to the other airports in the country due to COVID-19.
