Travelling with office buddies is surely is a like chalk and cheese kind of experience. Our boss took us to the blue city- Jodhpur. The city of the sun is tourist’s paradise to explore its strapping forts and magnificent landscapes.
We started our exciting trip on freezing night of 20 January 2016. We boarded Delhi Sarai Rohilla train from old Delhi railway station and kick-started our much-awaited trip. After 7 hour journey, we finally reached our destination in the morning where our bus was waiting to drop us to Camp Thar. If you ever visit Jodhpur you must relish the joy of staying in tents; it is an unforgettable experience.
Camp Thar is approximately 50 km from the city of Jodhpur; located in beautiful Osain right in the middle of dunes. The camp offers a lot of interesting stuff including cultural activities along with desert safari and camel ride. The camp was designed beautifully with the delightful blend of modern and traditional decor. The magnificent dunes and stillness of desert transfer you into a different world.
Thewas spent enjoying Camp Thar and views from the camp along with delicious lunch buffet. In the evening we did camel ride while enjoying the sunset. The ship of desert rode us for around 3 kilometers in the Thar Desert, the land of warriors.
We ended our day with cultural activities like traditional Rajasthani folk dance and Sufi music.
Day 2: There are many ancient temples in Osain which proudly stand with their fine architecture and unparallel craftsmanship. We visited Jain Mahavira Temple which is approx 2500 years old built with red stone designs carved inside out. From the top of the temple, you can enjoy the view of the blue city.
There is ancient Baoli which has dried now but was used in ancient times to store and conserve water. The Toorji ka jhalara was constructed in 1740s by Maharaja Abhay Singh’s Consort. Carved with Jodhpur’s famous rose-red sandstone steep well includes intricate carvings of dancing elephants, medieval lions, and cow water-spouts.
Lunch was traditional Rajasthani Thali at Shri Sachiyay Restaurant.
Camp Thar has open jeep desert safari package, they take you to sunset point covering all dunes. It is one thrilling adventure no one should miss.
At night everyone had fun with drinks and DJ. Everyone danced like there is no tomorrow!
Day 3: The final day was started very early Day by powerful breakfast at camp. Our group left around 7 because on the final day we wanted to cover Jodhpur city.
Most famous and well-built fort in Jodhpur is Mehrangarh. It is 36m high with firm base. Mehrangarh is packed with history and legend. You don’t need a ticket to enter the fort itself, only the museum section. There are many small structures built, like Loha Pol, the fort’s original entrance, with iron spikes to deter enemy elephants. There is a restaurant where you can enjoy delicious meals as well.
Mehrangarh fort is huge and it might take you 2 hours to cover it especially if you are visiting museum too.
Don’t forget to try Kachoris and Mirchi Vada in Jodhpur. You can get street food anywhere in the city especially outside the fort.
Vibrant and with a lot of cultures ingrained in its art, paintings, food, architecture, and palaces make Jodhpur spectacle you would not want to miss.
