Chetak was the horse of Mewad King Maharana Pratap, whom Pratap rode during the Battle of Haldighati. The warhorse was of Kathiawari breed. The daring & devoted horse of Maharana Pratap was sacrificed his life on June 21, 1576 during the battle of haldighati. Chetak was badly wounded by Mughal Army led by Man Singh. Inspite of being badly wounded, Chetak saved Maharana Pratap in his critical hours by caring him from Rakt Talai to the other end of Haldighati by jumping across nearby stream of 21feet wide near village Balicha, which Chetak with his wounded leg jumped across. Some distance ahead Chetak collapsed and became unconscious, eventually died on the lap of his master. It would be difficult to find another such example of a Horse’s devotion and loyalty to its master. The memorial stone and tomb of Chetak still exist adding glory to this place.
