How can one whole city, that too a city of that size, be painted pink. And pink?? I guess lot of us think it same way. My cousin had to marry for me to see jaipur. As soon as i landed, i couldn't wait to ask my cousin. Questioning about it, i got to know that the old city of jaipur is surrounded by 4 gates, which was actual jaipur of that time, and only area inside it is painted pink.
Now i can't really ask my cousin to leave his marriage preparation and take me on a city tour. So i went out alone only to find more like me. City is adjusted to the inflow of tourists and most people i met were very nice.
PATHSHALA!! This is the place featured in Rang de basanti. And rightly so, lot of students come here biking bunking college.
Coming back from nahargarh fort, this was my next stop. Now, i have seen enough palaces. I have been to jaisalmer, udaipur, agra & i have not heard enough about this palace. The only palace comes to your mind when you think of jaipur is Hawa Mahal. So i was expecting it to be a small stop, but how i was wrong. It was magnificent. Not having done too much research sometimes do wonders. And if you are visiting jaipur, do not miss it. Palace is surrounded by fort having wall running for 12km, but king(Jai Singh II i believe, google it up) did not fight any war and surrendered.
Returning back home from amber fort, i stopped here and walked around for sometime. I was really tempted to go inside but there is no way. There used to be a boat ride but not anymore.
Need i say more. There are small doors & windows everywhere painted artfully for that era.
Isn't this the haveli pictured in Bhool Bhulaiya where Monjulika dance? Well, there is more to it then beautiful architecture. Inside palace holds exhibition of dresses king & queen used to wear on different occasions. There is museum showcasing huge collection of weapon they had. And there is another shop selling all the things rajasthan is famous for(shawl, dupatta, jooti and many more) but what good thing about that shop is, some of those things, they also show you how that work is done. I got to see how jewelry box, jooti, carpet is made.
If you are a history buff, this place is for you. This is how scientists used to do there calculations back then. But do your research before you go, or hire a guide otherwise it looks like some plane wall standing nowhere for no reason.
