When the country was under the British, Palanpur enjoyed the status of being a princely state. This place is of much importance to the Jain community who called this place Prahladpur. The city is home to quite a few temples here and thus is an important pilgrim spot. The seven gates that once adorned the city are a testimony of the wealth and glory once seen by Palanpur. Out of these, the famous ones are the ‘Shimla,’ ‘ Meera,’ ‘Delhi,’ and ‘ Gathaman’ gates.
