When the country was under the British, Palanpur enjoyed the status of being a princely state. This place is of much importance to the Jain community who called this place Prahladpur. The city is home to quite a few temples here and thus is an important pilgrim spot. Palanpur holds an important spot in the annals of Indian history as is believed to have been ruled by Paramara clan of the Rajputs. The seven gates that once adorned the city are a testimony of the wealth and glory once seen by Palanpur. Out of these, the famous ones are the ‘Shimla,’ ‘ Meera,’ ‘Delhi,’ and ‘ Gathaman’ gates.
