Day:2:Around 10 am we reached NJP station. As per our itinerary, we had to hire a taxi to Yuksom. But we almost wasted 2 hours at Siliguri, in search of a taxi to Yuksom but with little success. Only few travel agencies were agreed to offer the transport but only with package schemes. Our little traveler was not enjoying the chaotic traffic and heat very much and was frequently raising his voice. Finally we drop the plan for Yuksom and hired a taxi to Pelling and left Siliguri. We crossed the vibrant green Mahananda Wildlife Sanctuary and started climbing to hills. We passed by famous Sevok kali temple and coronation bridge, and continued. May be it is due to geographical reason, or may be it was a coincidence or may be it was due to unknown administrative reason, the condition of the same national highway was hugely different between WB and Sikkim (NH are maintained by NHAI only). The road became smooth once we entered Sikkim. Throughout the journey, my friend kept complaining about the road condition and the baby giggled every time when the ride became bumpy. What a journey it was.By evening, we reached Pelling and with the help of the taxi driver, we checked into a very good and new hotel in upper Pelling. The hotel was situated on the helipad ground and the view from the hotel was magnificent.

Baby Steps to Mountains - Trip to Sikkim

Exploring Sikkim through a bike rideFor the day one, we started our trip from Bengaluru International Airport and landed in Bagdogra Airport. We hired bikes(RE-Himalayan) for rent which has pre-booked and finalised over phone and started our journey with 7 bikes and 11 members to Gangtok via Darjeeling. To avoid night travel we stayed in Darjeeling. Will list you few important things which is essential while planning to explore Sikkim.. - There is no direct flights to sikkim - Bagdogra Airport, which is in West Bengal, nearest airport to reach Sikkim - Traveler permit is compulsory to visit tourist places in East and North Sikkim - You can get permit in Gangtok, taxis are available there - Hindi and English are common language - Bargain as much as possible - Pre-booking is preferable - Less number of Atm's, keep enough cash - Avoid night travel - By 5.30 it will be darker, early sunset.

Back to Siliguri: Final day I had plan for paragliding but everyone at hostel said it's not worth so dropped the plan and hanged out in cafe with new strangers friends. I got company for going back to Siliguri - Rajat(Trekking guy) and Sharanya(Travel blogger). It was nice knowing different people doing things in diverse directions. All we want in our life is to be happy but happiness is always with you, we just don't need to look far for it. While leaving it felt like leaving a family and all because of such embracing Hostel owner Manisha. I will always have special place for Tagalong Backpackers Hostel in my life.

It was already late around 5 pm so I was not getting many options. At last I got WagonR which I shared with a couple. It was quite comfortable for me sitting in front seat so I was fine for paying 400 bucks.There was lots of traffic on the way having few bottlenecks. I would suggest to eat light food as its get tiring and monotonous. Music would be awesome companion so keep power bank with you.

9th June'19 0430 hrs (Sunday), we started from our home at DumDum for a road trip to Kalimpong. As decided earlier, we were supposed to have a night halt at Siliguri, and on 10th we were supposed to reach Kalimpong.Here "We" means my wife Sudipta, my cousins Saheb and Shouvik and my 2.5 year old daughter Samriddhi.At 10:30 am we reached Morgram and halted for our morning breakfast. We had taken the much talked about and rather ill-famed NH-31 through Ranaghat-Krishnanagar- Baharampur. However to my surprise (and luck ofcourse) we didn't find much chaos at that time. Moreover the road surface was much better than what I had encountered last year.**Please note that though G-Map was showing us to take the Ranaghat by-pass, we avoided it and remained on the main highway. I'll request people who are on that stretch, to avoid it too, since the by-pass may shorten the distance but it goes through small towns and villages were the local population and ricksaws may slow you down. Also that by-pass passes through 4 railway level-crossings :0 and ultimately meets NH31 just before Krishnanagar.Morgram onwards the road was fantastic and anyone can go upto 100kmph or more. Crossing Farakka was a breeze.We had our lunch at 1.30 pm at Mayabon just before the Malda by-pass.The entry to and exit from the Malda by-pass was a real bad surface, otherwise the road was fantastic.We reached Siliguri at 8:30pm through Botolbari route and rested for the night in a hotel on Sevoke Road.

We were left with one day, which was not sufficient to cover West Sikkim. In addition, we had a morning flight next day from Bagdogra so we had to reach Siliguri a day before. So, we had breakfast and booked a cab for Siliguri. We booked a reserved cab this time and it cost us ₹ 2,300. We spent the rest of the day chilling in Siliguri and left for our home the next day.

Now, we have to leave to Gangtok(capital of Sikkim) but as Kolkata vehicles are not allowed we took a direct car till siliguri taxi standHe charged 300/person from there we took a Sikkim state taxi where he also charged 300/person and started for Gangtok.The taxi consists of 12 passengers it is a 116km journey which takes aroung 3-4 1/2 hrs. So the journey in the taxi was bit hard but the roadways towards Gangtok is worth travelling.

The small steam engine pulling three tiny coaches, with about 15 seats each, is a cute sight! But the black exhaust fumes that it exhales leave me coughing incessantly. That's it! I'm not going to take the Toy Train joy ride! At least I was lucky enough to get a quick look at this "pride and joy of Darjeeling". We reach Darjeeling at 5:15 PM. At first sight, I realize that it's not a sleepy hill town but more like a busy city with narrow and crowded streets, congested areas, and above all...fashionable and pretty-looking young women! At 6,710 feet, Darjeeling is blessed with great weather. During the temperate season of spring, summer and autumn, hordes of tourists flock to this town for its main attraction...a 180 degree panoramic view of the sunrise over four out of five highest peaks of the world from Tiger Hill, which is 13 km from the town. Many love to visit this popular town in the winter and some, in the monsoon. And then, there are a few like me, who just want to breathe clean air and feel the hills when there are no tourists and the hill town is at its serene best. I pull out the list of hotels that I have made after browsing through the Internet. I have thought about staying at some place near the Mall which is the town centre. The Mall (or the Chowrasta Mall) is the most preferred area for tourists. Most popular hotels, restaurants and shops are located along the entire stretch of Nehru Road leading up to the Mall and the Mall road itself. We reach the taxi stand from where the Nehru Road leading to the Mall begins. Just opposite the stand is Hotel Dekeling, which features in my list. It's located in an old building and the entrance is through a narrow staircase. I drag my poor little trolley bag through the bustling pedestrian Nehru Road. Due to rain, the narrow road is wet (and puddled at places!) and the uneven surface makes it difficult for me to walk through the crowd while checking on my bag from time to time. To make it worse, there is a slight drizzle. The road is lined with all types of shops (arts, crafts and jewellery, curios, woollen clothes, jackets, shoes, etc.) and restaurants (Indian, Chinese, Continental, etc.). out to check another hotel and have a No doubt this hotel is located in an excellent loc ation but maybe I had mistaken this hotel with another of the same name.Besides my room, only two or three other rooms were occupied.
