4. Cameron Highland

For our second day, we had booked an early tour of Cameron Highland which included a walk in the Mossy Forest, visit to a Strawberry Farm, visit to Boh Tea Plantation, visit to a local tea farm, climbing mount brinchang, and exploring the rose garden.The entire tour was of 6-7 hours and cost around 750 INR per person. So, we started early around 7 a.m. and covered all the mentioned points.

We had booked a bus to Cameron Highland for the next morning for 700 INR. They picked us up from our hostel and we reached Cameron Highland in the afternoon, by 2-3 p.m.Since it was late, we couldn't take the Cameron highland tour that day but we booked one for the next day. On our first day here, we simply roamed around the hill station and walked as far as possible.

One of my favourite places in Malaysia, Cameron Highlands are highlands located 200 kms north of Kuala Lumpur and famous for cool weather, orchards, forest, tea gardens, waterfalls and streams. This hill station is also famous for numerous treks. Owing to weather conditions, some of them might be closed. So please be careful while embarking on one. I took Route Number 10 – a trek through dense forest area ending on top of Gunung Jasar. The trek starts from behind Oly Apartment.

We decided to go to the Cameron Highlands. We started this day very very late as we were really tired after a long travel and walk at the Langkawi. We literally started only after lunch. We drove to the top from Penang. It took us almost a couple of hours. And the worst thing was all shops and attractions close early there but we anyway decided to give it a shot.

I had registered for a guided half day tour (RM 45) of Cameron highland which would cover most of the places in Cameron highland like tea plantation and factory, trekking in mossy forest, Butterfly farm etc. It started at around 8 am in the morning and ended at 2.00 pm-( Not recommended/worth at all). Instead rent a scooter and visit these places on your own- most of them are free.But i did meet some of the amazing people from different countries and had a good time hanging out.

Destination 2 – Cameron HighlandsThe climate of KL is humid, pretty much like Mumbai or any other city in India located near the Sea. The climate is not very humid but it’s not cold either. This is where the Cameron Highlands assume importance.Located about four hours from KL, with cold climate and temperatures going to 10 degrees, this place is no different from our Himachal Pradesh, or even Lonavala for that matter. Located on the hills, the Cameron Highlands were the weekend getaway for the British once upon a time. Now it’s a tourist place.The place you get down at is Tanah Rata. It’s a small town which is situated on two sides of the highway with shops, eateries, and hotels on both sides. It looked like a beautiful Mall road of our local hill stations.Where we stayed: Twin Pines Guest House, Tanah RataRoom type: Attic RoomBudget: RM 30 per night (for two people)By far this was the cheapest option we came across when it comes to stay. Upon landing at Tanah Rata, we headed towards the Twin Pines guest house. It had good reviews on the internet and now we know why. This place has small size attic rooms on its first floor – fit for those who are either traveling on budget or who are adventurers. We are both! So we booked the attic room which has two mattresses on the ground, and a small triangular roof shaped attic up above. The bathrooms are separate on the ground floor and the room is by no means a luxury but it is fun to spend one night there and experience the thrill of staying at some place unique.Things to do:
