What is the first thing that comes to your mind when you want to get away from the hustle-bustle of city life? The serenity of the mountains. Promising solitude, unparalleled natural beauty and an escape from city chaos is the beautiful hill station of Ooty. One of the most popular hill stations in India, Ooty is located in the state of Tamil Nadu.

A favourite with honeymooners, art lovers and admirers of nature, this hilly hamlet is best explored through customised Ooty tour packages. Whether you are looking for a luxurious Ooty holiday or one packed with sightseeing tours, Ooty tour packages are ideal for all kinds of travellers.

This quiet hill station was a favourite during the British era and was developed as a summer retreat for the officers. The highlight of your Ooty tour packages will be the mesmerising train ride offered by the Nilgiri Mountain Railways. Said to be the steepest track in Asia, a ride aboard this train will become one of your most memorable experiences. Not only are the sights breathtaking but the sheer joy of riding through lush greenery and gorgeous mountains is incomparable.

Ooty is also home to numerous sightseeing spots and viewpoints which are part of all Ooty tour packages. Even though the town has become quite popular in recent years and sees thousands of tourists every year, you can always find a quiet spot to call your own. One of the most important tips before booking Ooty tour packages is to choose accommodation outside the busy town centre. Away from the market rush, homestays and resorts take you into another world and add so much more to your Ooty holiday.

Ooty Highlights

Travellers have often claimed that there isn’t much to do or see in hill stations, but an Ooty trip will change your perspective. The most popular part of Ooty tour packages is a ride on the Toy Train. Also known as Nilgiri Mountain Railway, the train was declared as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and has charmed visitors for decades. Covering a distance of 46 km at a luxurious pace, the train offers you breathtaking views of the city. Traversing tricky terrains, the highest train route is at over 4000 feet and it’s said to be one of the steepest train routes in Asia. The journey begins from Mettupalayam and covers Coonoor, Lovedale and Ootacamund.

The journey is spectacular and should definitely be a part of all Ooty tour packages. You will cross tunnels, thick forests, verdant fields dotted with lakes and gorges before finally ending the five-hour journey. The best time to hop aboard the toy train is in the morning so that you have the rest of the day to enjoy other sightseeing sites.

Ooty Botanical Gardens is another tourist attraction in Ooty tour packages which is unmissable. Situated in the lower slopes of the Doddabetter peak, the garden is a treat for nature lovers. The highlight of the garden is Toda Hill which offers visitors a peek into the life of the Toda Tribe. One can learn more about their way of life while also admiring the huge variety of flowers in the garden. Among the rarest species of trees, the ones that stand out are cork tree, the monkey puzzle tree and an old fossil tree which is said to be as old as 20 million years. If you want to truly learn more about plants and different kinds of trees, you can also include a guided tour in Ooty tour packages.

To refresh your senses, you can include a visit to the mesmerising Ooty Lake. A part of Ooty tour packages, the lake is situated close to 2km from the main centre. One of the most popular tourist spots, the lake was set up in the year 1824. Visited by nature lovers and photographers, the lake truly offers a break from the chaotic sounds of a city. All you can hear is the melodic chirpings of birds and the soothing rustling of trees. If you are travelling with children, you must try boating in the lake. There is also a mini-train with tracks around the lake so you can enjoy pristine views as the train slowly chugs along. The best time to visit the lake is during weekdays or late in the evenings during weekends.

If nature and serenity are what you seek on a holiday, then you must include a visit to Rose Garden in Ooty tour packages. Known as Jayalalithaa Rose Garden, the Nootrandu Roja Poonga and the Centenary Rose Park, it’s a must-visit tourist attraction if you are travelling with children.
Located on Elk Hill slopes, the Rose Garden is maintained by the Horticulture department of Tamil Nadu and makes for an enthralling tourist attraction. The best time to visit the Rose Garden is in the evening just as the sun is setting and you can admire the orange-hued skies and the endless rows of vibrant flowers. If you want to relive your childhood, you can also enjoy a leisurely picnic amidst lush greenery and colourful flowers. We do recommend taking your picnic basket with you so you don’t have to depend on the snack stalls here. For those who have booked Ooty tour packages between March and June can also catch the flower show.

If you want to take a trip outside the city, you can include a visit to Emerald Lake in your Ooty tour packages. Located 22km away from the city in Silent Valley National Park, it is the ideal place to enjoy the surreal natural beauty. There aren’t too many tourists here so you can enjoy your time without the usual rush. Adventure enthusiasts can also enjoy trekking and hiking around the lake. If you enjoy cycling, there are a number of operators who rent out cycles to enthusiasts. At the same time, if you want to simply enjoy the beauty of Emerald Lake, we recommend trying your hand at fishing. Locals will help you in arranging a comfortable fishing trip.
