About Alchi

Day 2-We went to Alchi Monastry, 5 hrs-140Kms from leh, on the Srinagar-Leh highway. En-route, experienced the Magnetic hill, saw the Sangam of Indus-Zanskar river, beautiful and virgin experience. We did rafting in the river and on way back to leh visited pathar sahib gurudwara. took overnight rest at the hotel.Day 3 We started for Khardungla(the highest Motorable road) at 9am and reached khardungla point at 1pm. The temperature was freezing cold and it was vacumm there at the top. The military serves the public with snacks and tea and have oxygen mask for people who may have an oxygen deficiency(u may have). The route is nauseating and better carry 'hajmola' if you are altitude sick. By 4pm we reached hunder village and visited the Dikshit Gompa which is a 100ft. long buddha statue overlooking the hunder village. In the evening, we took rest at a boutique hotel at hunder which is a small hamlet with some unique stay options. The surroundings are quiet and you will at times feel cut off from the civilization.
